Right-Wing Notions of Freedom are Part of the Problem
Ben Burgis takes on right-wing libertarian notions of freedom after announcing his book “Give Them an Argument: Logic for the Left” is available for pre-order. It is already #1 in Philosophy Criticism on Amazon.
Zero Books Manifesto: The modern world is at an impasse. Disasters scroll across our smartphone screens and we’re invited to like, follow or upvote, but critical thinking is harder and harder to find. Rather than connecting us in common struggle and debate, the internet has sped up and deepened a long-standing process of alienation and atomization.
Derick Varn interviews Jordan von Manalastas, a human rights and immigration lawyer and regular contributor to Jacobin. In 2017 Manalastas wrote the essay "THe Rule of Law Won't Save Us" for Jacobin. This week he joins Derick to discuss how the American left understands and misunderstands the law and the security state.

Did the 80s ever happen or is vaporwave the ghost of a past that never was? Are we doomed to mash up, distort and repeat, or has the crystallized moment called Neoliberalism shattered?
This video reexamines Grafton Tanner's theories on Vaporwave, reassesses Mark Fisher's Capitalist Realism, and considers the possibility that history has reasserted itself in the worst of ways.

According to the New York Times, Bill Murray has become a secular saint. Douglas Lain flirts with the idea of joining the Cult of Murray in this video while working to rehabilitate Hegel’s notion of Spirit or Geist. Can we overcome ourselves by embracing the contradiction of modern life?

Last year, Buddies Without Organs explored the works of Gilles Deleuze. Now, in association with Zer0 Books, we are turning towards the lesser-known works of Mark Fisher.
Fisher is a writer we all already love, and we felt he'd be great to read together. We're starting as we intend to go on with a oft-neglected post from the Hyperstition blog about the 1970s children's serial, Children of the Stones -- a series that Fisher suggests is an example of an underrepresented British sci-fi genre: "megalithic astropunk".

Grafton Tanner, author of the Circle of the Snake and Babbling Corpse, explains the ideology of the Netflix documentary "The Social Dilemma" and how a kind of pseudo-critique has arisen to explain and, in a round about way, justify the practices of social media giants like FB and Twitter.

News broke recently about the pepper spraying of a young black girl (9 years old) cuffed in the back of a police car. Have we had any real movement in the aftermath of the George Floyd protests of last summer? Is the defunding of law enforcement really an answer for this type of behavior? What does prison abolition actually look like? Joe Biden has signed on to end federal private prisons. Is that enough? Is expanding the black political class equal to actually having real political power? We will ask these questions and more with our guest Professor Dylan Rodríquez.
