Look for just these last moments with me at Peter. Here he is at the end of the road. I can just see him now with his gnarled fisherman’s hands, the skin leathery from the sun, those eyes still piercingly full of zeal.
He never lost the wonder of Jesus. He has lived every day since the Spirit fell upon him consumed with the message of the cross. Now one last time he wants to keep his beloved fellow saints on track so he warns that the coming fires are on the same level of catastrophe as the Flood.
So he exhorts his loved ones on how to rescue our treasures from floods and fires. Look at 2 Peter 3:9-18:
Materialism Blurs our Purpose: Live Redemptively v.9 because God is patiently holding the Ark door of His grace open today.
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
Materialism Clouds our Minds: Keep Alert v. 10-11
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
o By living for what lasts v. 10 or what do we have that won't burn!
o By living in purity v. 11 so we won't be ashamed when He shows up unexpectedly!

There is a day on the horizon of the future. On that day a series of events will take place which will arrest everyday life on planet Earth. In a single moment on a single day all over the world
The food supply will end,
The transportation system will grind to a halt,
The banking system will freeze and default,
The luxuries, precious metals, gems, art, and all other hoarded wealth of our country and all others will become worthless,
The communications industry will be cut off and there will be no radio, no TV, no telephone, no internet,
The supply of power will fade and blink off, and darkness will rule in the homes and businesses of the world. In short, there is a day when the lights are going off all over the world, and they won’t be coming on anytime soon.
The 18th chapter of Revelation gives us a road map for the coming economic collapse of the world. By learning the lessons God laid down in His Word we can see what response He desires from His servants not only in the ultimate collapse (the topic of Revelation 18) but also in any other reversals, downturns and recessions, depressions and panics that precede the big and final crash.
That is what Revelation 18 is all about. God disrupts everyday life. This chapter defines the judgment of God upon a society, which worships the creation, the technology, the pleasures, the comforts, and this entire world, instead of the Creator.

As the end of the world approaches, so does earth’s darkest hour.
Hell will open and the pit will vomit out its demon hordes to run wildly throughout humanity. Other beasts from the abyss will wreak death and destruction globally. And Satan himself invades the earth and conquers it all at last.
At the helm, the visible leader of the world will be the long-promised man of sin, the lawless one, the beast, the Coming World Leader - commonly known as the Antichrist – who has 33 titles in the Old Testament and 13 in the New Testament. But behind him, the real power will be the god of this world, the dragon, old Lucifer, the lying serpent of Eden.
The Bible clearly teaches (1 Timothy 4:1-3) that we can expect this invasion from the pit in the last days. During the final days, most people will be led astray by evil spirits and occult teachings. The shadows of these times are already darkening the world. Nothing but the restraining presence of God the Holy Spirit is holding back the floodgates of this time of evil. As we saw when we studied Genesis, advanced demonism was the mark of Noah’s day; it is becoming an increasingly evident characteristic of the age in which we live.
The only place of safety is to have the security that the REAL Christ gives.
As we open to Matthew 24:15 again, we are opening to what I consider one of the saddest doctrines in the Bible--the teaching in God's Word about the antichrist.

CHRIST JESUS LEFT HIS PLAN FOR HIS CHURCH
Please look at our marching orders as a church, given by Christ, just before He went back to Heaven:
Matthew 28:18-20 (NKJV) And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
When Jesus left the disciples with the plan they were to follow, it was simple:
Go, evangelize, baptize & train.
That is the Great Commission. That is God’s plan for Christ's Church. That is what God expects us in Christ's Church to be doing. That is what I like to call Simple Church.
Everyone knew what they were called to do back then at the start. The blessing today is that we have what they were taught. God in His Word has told us what He wants, so we can also confidently know what we are called to do.
Our job is to make disciples; and our motivation is to do that (and everything else) for the glory of God.
A simple reading of the commission of Christ and the record of the response of His disciples, and the early church, would lead us to conclude that back then, almost:
EVERYONE KNEW THEY WERE PART OF THE PLAN
That’s why in January of this year we began to study the current series on the Disciplines, to help focus our calendars, programs, ministries, activities, and public services on the Simple Church plan that Christ laid out.

Jesus lived the perfect life, accomplished more than any human ever did, and yet Jesus was never in a HURRY! He was Purposed but never PUSHED. He was focused but never Frantic. He was Resolved but never rushed!
Did you notice this morning the pace of your life as you came here to worship God? Perhaps we all need to slow down and reflect on the following...
The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints;
we spend more, but have less;
we buy more, but enjoy it less.
We have bigger houses and smaller families;
more conveniences, but less time;
we have more degrees, but less sense;
more knowledge, but less judgment;
more experts, but more problems;
more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly,
laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry too quickly,
stay up too late, get up too tired,
read too little of God's Word, watch TV too much,
Fast too rarely, give too little, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions but reduced our values.
We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life;
we've added years to life, not life to years.
We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbor.
We've conquered outer space, but not inner space;
we've done larger things, but not better things;
We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul; we've split the atom, but
not our prejudice; we write more, but learn less; we plan more, but
accomplish less.
We've learned to rush, but not to wait;
we have higher incomes, but lower morals;
we have more food, but less appeasement;
we build more computers to hold more information to produce more copies than ever, but have less communication;
we've become long on quantity, but short on quality.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion;
tall men, and short character;
steep profits, and shallow relationships.
These are the times of world peace (?), but domestic warfare;
more leisure, but less fun;
more kinds of food, but less nutrition.
These are days of two incomes, but more divorce;
of fancier houses, but broken homes.
These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers,
throw away morality, one-night stands, overweight bodies,
and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.
It is a time when there is much in the show window and nothing in the stockroom;
So it is time to look again at God's offer of REST!
Have you noticed that the world all around us is going faster and faster each day? And yes, we in turn are also speeding up. But some important questions we need to ask are:

Do you ever feel unprepared, unpracticed, or unskilled in the ministry of witnessing and soul-winning?
Solution: That can end tonight. Just take a moment and be sure you have your tool kit ready.
Marking the Gospel presentation in your Bible is one of many wonderful ways to point someone to Christ. We call this the Romans Road. It starts with a note on the first spot inside your Bible that is easily visible.
Write Romans 3:10.
Now turn there with me and write:
# 1 “WE all have SINNED” (note the emphasis in v.11 “none”, v. 12 “all”; note sins of word v. 13, deed in v. 15, habits v. 16, neglect v. 17, irreverence v. 18) then write by the conclusion v. 23 “WE ARE ALL SINNERS”. Then put (5:8). By Romans 5:8 write:
# 2 “Christ DIED FOR SINNERS” and put (6:23) then note v. 10 “through the death” (substitution) and v. 11 “received the reconciliation” (imputation). Now go to Romans 6:23 and write:
# 3 “SALVATION IS A GIFT” and put (10:9) by that line. Emphasize Jesus wants to never let you face God’s Wrath against sin, He offers a free gift that He purchased at great cost. Then turn to Romans 10:10 and write:
#4 “ASK THE LORD JESUS TO SAVE YOU”. Read v. 9-10 and 13. Then ask them if they realize they have sinned, that only Jesus the Son of God can save them (because He became the One God punished for their sin and He lived the perfect life they never could). If they say yes then lead them in a prayer crying out to the Lord for their salvation!
What would ever keep us from this wonderful eternal ministry? One last reason: either we are unsure of our own salvation; or unprepared with the Gospel; or because of –
Being Unfilled, Un-Controlled, Un-Empowered, & Un-Guided by the Holy Spirit. Are You Keeping Filled With Christ's Spirit?

When God looks down upon us humans who live on Earth, He only sees two kinds of hearts: saved hearts and lost hearts. God's Word classifies everyone as either: having Christ or not. Listen to John:
1 John 5:12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. NKJV
Several types of behavior distinguish between God’s people (the saved) and Satan’s people (the lost), but none is more clearly contrasted than submission to authority (the saved) and a casting off of authority (the lost).
As we turn a couple of short books towards the end, in Jude v.8 God reveals those key characteristics of Satan’s realm. God tells us that Satan’s team “rejects authority” (NKJV/NAS/NIV). That is just another way of saying—resisting submission.
Jude 8 Likewise these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority (NAS/NIV), and speak evil of dignitaries. NKJV
These are two interesting words “reject” (atheteo means “despise, reject, cast off”) and “authority” (kuriotes means “Lordship or dominion”). So at the deepest level, lost people cast off or reject, or even despise the Lordship, the rule, or dominion of Christ.
In fact, when Paul is guided to record the decline and fall of the human race in Romans 1, one of the clearest elements is seen in humanity’s constant desire to cast off all restraint (again resisting submission to any authority other than self).
We could simply summarize God's Word by saying that God’s people are submissive and Satan’s people aren’t.
Since we were born, as Isaiah 53:6 says, we want our own way—only a second birth can change that.
Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, everyone, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. NKJV
Remember that Jesus reduced life to one simple goal—seeking God’s rule over each day of my life. Christ's simple yet powerful words:
Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. NKJV

Part #27--The greatest week in the history of the Universe is before us. Nothing in all of the Bible compares to the drama of John 20. In these short verses, we have the very heart of all we believe. Jesus Christ declared to be the Son of God – by the glorious power of the resurrection!
Join me at daybreak just outside Jerusalem.
It is Resurrection morning and we watch the scene at the tomb from the perspective of the God of Heaven and Earth—as He captures an incredible, inspired record of that moment. Each person and each event are captured as God wants us to see and remember them. Each of the following seven events is in exactly the order and emphasis that God wants you and me to have. His goal? Verse 31 of this chapter—so that we may believe His Word! If nothing else tonight remember that—God wants you to trust His Word!
First, survey the scene with me and note the events of John 20. What were those 7 telltale proofs of Christ’s resurrection? They are all in John 20, verses 1-15.
1. A Stone Removed, four eyewitness accounts in the Gospels. They all agree! v. 1
2. An Empty Tomb, v. 2 The Tomb was sealed and guarded. The Tomb is empty. Then and to this day no dead body has ever been found!
3. An Absent Christ, v. 3. Neither friends nor foes took Him, but both find out that He is gone.
4. An Undisturbed Pile of grave clothes in the shape of Jesus is now deflated, lying UNDISTURBED, v. 5. The abandoned Grave clothes silently shout.
5. A Face Napkin that was tightly rolled up is still rolled as it was, v.7
6. A Witness from two ANGELS, v. 12
7. A Risen Christ giving Personal, Face-To-Face Meetings. It is JESUS, v. 15-18. Witnesses who saw Him alive. He Transformed the lives of His disciples. His Rising marked the New day of Worship for Christians.
