Since I had travel problems yesterday I decided to sneak one more program in before I (Lord willing) fly out this afternoon. Talked a little about the textual variant at 1 Peter 3:15 and then moved on to the controversy that has arisen regarding the assertion that one must see David as a “rapist” regarding Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11-12, Psalm 51). Unfortunately, the program wasn't about Ehrman finally taking a stand on the Qur'an (that would be quite the news!). Instead, I started off with some comments on Ehrman's new book (I am about halfway through it) and how I hope to use its release as a teaching opportunity to address a wider set of issues. The kind of arguments in his new book will be thrown at every one of our young people in the coming decades.
Then I moved back to a topic we have covered a few times, that of the relationship between the Qur'an and the Christian Scriptures. I had planned on responding to some comments made by Shabir Ally in our debate in Erasmia, South Africa, regarding Surah 5:47, but a series of emails from Farhan Qureshi prompted me to get to it today on the program. We went a bit in depth, to be sure, but hopefully with sufficient clarity to be of use to most in our audience.

Well, I did say it would be an experiment, and, well, it was a failed experiment. I thought it would be cool to let folks get in touch via Zoom and ask about a textual variant they particular are interested in. I get folks contacting me privately about things like that all the time. So, we fired stuff up, opened the Zoom room up and…got clobbered with teens playing games. Couldn’t get a single person lined up with a serious question. So, I threw it open to the Twitterverse and we only got one or two requests. So, I filled with information about how we examine variants, looking mainly at Mark 1:1, 1:2, and John 5:3-4. So, hopefully that will be helpful for a few folks, but other than that, I need to go wash the soot off my clothes from the ashes of the program and get ready to press on!

Started off commenting on the MANDATORY guidelines for “private gatherings” in the Soviet Socialist State of Kalifornia (i.e., Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings), and noting that this will become a permanent aspect of our lives if we fall into the abyss of socialism on November 3rd. Then we took calls on a wide variety of topics, but a major portion of the time was on the topic of Roman Catholicism (I’d say at least half the program). We also talked a little about 1689 Federalism and the deity of Christ in Calvin.

I was joined in studio by TurretinFan as we continued our review of the encounter between Paul Helm and William Lane Craig, focusing today especially upon the key problems with Molinism. Started the program reading from Dr. James Anderson's recent article asking some probing questions about Molinism as well.

Acts 2:39 should be thought of by Reformed believers right along with Acts 13:48 and other texts teaching and proclaiming the sovereignty of God in salvation, but it normally is not. Why? Tradition. Today we spent the entire program, basically, looking at this one topic, digging into the original languages and considering the message of Peter’s response to the inquiry, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” Both a theological inquiry as well as an example of, hopefully, consistent application of exegetical rules and norms. Then at the end a little announcement about our intended trip up to Moscow, Idaho for some spirited debates! Check it out. Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/

So Jory Micah says she will be more than happy to send the FBI after me (and Johnny Mac and Doug Wilson—not sure how I got top billing, but I know Doug is wondering, too) for promoting “hate” amongst young men (I think she was trying to blame me for the Atlanta area sex addiction shooter, but as with all things Jory Micah, it is hard to know). But others, like Anthony Bradley and Jemar Tisby had to jump on the “blame it to promote the narrative” bandwagon as well. Which led to us listening to Ally Henny of The Witness “preaching” about how blacks need to leave their mixed-race churches and self-segregate, all on the basis of refusing to forgive, but rather choosing to nourish and encourage a root of bitterness in their souls. An amazing “sermon” indeed. Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/
