Facebook just recently, through a partnership with Unity, announced they are working on an online marketplace for desktop computers. An evolution of their Facebook Arcade service, it will launch with a number of casual (Facebook, iOS/Android) games, but is intended to add less casual games as time goes on, in a move seamingly targeting Steams marketplace.
Although Facebook isn't a huge revenue source for game developers, they are still large enough they shouldn't be ignored. If they get app discoverability right, this could be a good development for gamedevs.
The deadline to apply for beta access to the prgoram is August 31/2016. You can read more about it here:

I love Three.js, I really do, it's an amazing 3D framework that make things like rendering, creating scenes, implementing audio, camera, shaders, physics and even VR in the browser so much easier that just using WebGL. It also provides loaders for a ton of 3D formats, a full editor, great documentation, loads of examples and more.
r98 was just released and it gave me a chance to talk about one of my favourite JavaScript frameworks, so here we are!

Material Maker is the closest thing you will find to a free and open source (and incredibly cool) alternative to Substance Designer and it just hit a massive milestone, the release of MaterialMaker 1.0!

First let me say, C++ is a great language. It is still the preeminent language for game development among AAA studios and there are many reasons for this. What it is not, in my opinion, is a good language for beginners to start with.
This video tries to explain why. In fact, it shows why. In the following video we will actually implement the same simple starter project in three different languages, C#, C++ and Lua/Love. The example is completely contrived and is typical of the kind of project a day 0 programmer might want to accomplish.
I think I accidently swore once or twice, so mild NSFW warning.
Once again let me make this first clear... I am not saying NOT to learn C++, it's an invaluable skill if you want to learn game programming. I am just strongly recommending against starting with C++, for reasons this video hopefully makes obvious.

Dogs and cats are dancing in the streets as hell freezes over... and Adobe supports Blender's development. First they joined the Blender Development Fund this summer... then they release two very useful plugins, one for Mixamo and the other for Substance, that we will look at in this video.
Is it a trap?

Pixelator is a cool little utility for giving a pixel art look to existing images. A fine level of control and a command line utility make it useful for game developers. You can download a completely functioning and free (for non-commercial) copy at:

In this BabylonJS, we create our first BabylonJS project. We create a host HTML document, create an instance of our 3D engine, create a scene and a camera and a cube to render.

And it probably doesn't need to be! Default installs of both Unity and Unreal install a bunch of stuff you probably don't need and you can easily shrink the install to about 1/3rd the default size... we look at how in this video.
