SPOT THE ODD ONE, MAKE THE MONEY! | ANTIQUE SHOP WITH ME This is our last chance to shop today, since the next town of size is 300 miles away! Fortunately, we're stopping in a small town known for a palace that's a Guiness Record attraction...and a palace of antiques and vintage that have made this a reseller destination! Shop with me as we look for low-priced, truly vintage finds we can take to our Spokane antique show and our Seattle modernist mall spaces! We find a lot of fun MCM home decor that makes it into our very crowded van, including a green L.E. Smith swung vase at 1/3 of current retail on the coast. We find sweet silhouettes, cocktail sets and a truly antique scientific scale with an old logo that adds great look to its sturdy function! This shop is really fun to see, with false 1910s storefronts, an original 1930s perfume counter and a wide group of really well categorized antique, vintage and collectible items! Pottery from the Great Plains region, local ephemera, dolls and toys, even a basement full of all manner of vintage housewares offer buyable bargains all over this large antique palace. Second Impressions Palace was a great place to shop the last time I came through, and it's making a great Second Impression this time! We've waited all year for this weekend of antique and vintage hunting at two annual community wide sales in Florida! Anything could find its way to these, and there's much more than just pretty porcelain and sparkly glass to consider. Beyond the vintage kitchen and decor buys--a Pyrex Tulip bowl for $5, Neil the Frog canisters for $10, Holt Howard candle climbers for $1--we find some things that are really fun but "just not right"! Naughty novelties, bawdy bar songs, and a last-minute find on wardrobe challenged head vases (a $75 value for just $2!) make this an excursion of unseemly delights. Community sales give the chance for thrift store prices on fresh finds from people's attics and garages, and we're lucky to have two good ones to share here. We've only been in this newly expanded designer and decorator antique mall for a week, and we're selling up a storm! After we fill a few empty spaces to preserve our space's look, we spend most of our time looking through this huge place that's busting at the seams with us fresh new vendors of antique & vintage wares. It's a work in progress here! Some dealers have their look together, and what a look it is. Spaces filled with high-end MCM designer furniture, a wall of Blenko glass and art, a row of 1910s sideboards and cases of jewelry including real Chanel, Tiffany and Fendi tell us that this is a serious place for collectors and decorators to buy. Other spaces are just now forming, and there's some bargains and buys in the midst of the chaos (is that a dead body on top of that stack of chairs?!). We see how too much furniture makes a fun display when you have high ceilings, find a very old sign from a long-forgotten area store, and poke through piles of signs, tables of Vallerysthal blue Portieux glass and a shelf of vibrant Arabia pitchers. How will these wonderful vintage items fit into a collector's look at home? We talk about our own "look" (do we have one, and how'd we get it?), and how I try to group things so people can visualize pieces in harmony, while incorporating cool vintage and antiques into their own style. Then we head off for the last big new section, where serious decorators present furniture by Adrian Pearsall and Milo Baughman with fun shapes and motion-filled 1960s design, set amongst rosewood dining sets, rare Robert Maxwell garden pots and a 1940s shoe display that makes you want to do the kick-step! DESPERADO DEALS | SHOPPING VINTAGE BARGAINS | RESELLING VLOG Highway robbery! That's the legacy of Jesse James, whose namesake antique mall along today's Interstate 29 promises to lighten our wallet with a variety of vintage finds and a steal of a deal here and there! We spend what time we can in this vintage lover's pit stop, with more antique goodies than we can see in our few stolen moments traveling cross country. We take time to look and learn, assessing a well priced period chair (is it really from 1780?), dating a delicate dress and practically stealing some fun and fanciful vintage items! (We also talk about why spring holders are very, very bad things.) Surprises ambush us in this facility, from a handsome Mack Bulldog sculpture that heralds from their offices to a German wall clock priced well below current retail value. We talk prices and show a wonderful array of collectible wares, from 1930s California carafes to a vintage stage light we might use in our eBay photo studio! In the end, we find that time is the real enemy, so we plan our next visit on our way through to Western antique shows.
