"Woke" is one of the most horribly misused words around right now. Too many people simply mean it as "that thing I don't like" when it means something so much more important than that. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is one of justice (see Jesus reading from the prophet Isaiah in Luke 4), and wokeness is simply being awake to injustice. The ongoing war in Gaza has seen tens of thousands of innocent people killed, lives torn apart, and increasing levels of both antisemitism and islamophobia. Disturbingly, many Christians are justifying or even supporting the actions of an Israeli government whose aim appears to be the destruction of the Palestinian people, even whilst rightly condemning Hamas atrocities and their wish to destroy Israel. In many cases, this support is based on theology and biblical interpretation.
