This is Day 2 of 3.
On behalf of all members of the Canadian Veteran Freedom Riders from Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, we extend our sincere appreciation to Mike D, our road captain, for planning a fantastic motorcycle trip to Manitoulin Island 27-29 May 2022. This trip brought together twelve motorcycle enthusiast/comrades, starting with a meet and greet at Tim Horton’s in Meaford, our starting point.
This trip took us to various attractions such as the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame, Dynamic Earth Science Museum, Bridal Veil Falls and many other outstanding stops along the way. Our first night’s rest was at Grundy Lake Provincial Park, where we all had a great time building new friendships. The next morning we were up early and ready to depart for our next leg, taking us to Sudbury and onwards to Meldrum Bay Campground, our second night stay, where we set up our tents along the waterfront. On night two everyone bedded down early, in preparation for day three of riding.
On any motorcycle trip the key is great planning, teamwork, safety and adapting/overcoming unforeseen issues, this group of riders had the experience in abundance. We arrived at South Baymouth for our Ferry Crossing to Tobermory early and decided to have a well deserved sit down breakfast before boarding the Ferry. This trip went so well that we are planning to get together in Sept and hope that we add more riders interested in joining us.
Once again, thank you Mike D and all riders who joined us in making this weekend motorcycle trip one to remember. We rode approximately 1000 kilometers over 3 days, slightly more than planned, due to some gas stations closed Sundays on the Island. Safe riding all.

As the founder of the Canadian Veteran Freedom Riders (LRRP) Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol from Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, I WO (Ret’d) Mike Boudrias aka Static-Line and all our members extend our sincere appreciation to Mr. Patrick Armstrong from the Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund, on their donation of a mobile defibrillator to our riding group in memory of Corporal T. James Mitchell, who was killed in action on 3 Oct 2006 by an insurgent attack while serving with the Canadian Forces in Afghanistan.
The presentation took place on 13 Aug 2021, at Cpl Robert T. James Mitchell Park located at 2nd Street 'A' West @ 3rd Avenue West Owen Sound, Ontario. The Dave Mounsey Memorial Fund was created in October 2009 by OPP Constable Patrick Armstrong; along with the help and input of the Fund's first Board. In 1998, Dave joined the Ontario Provincial Police. On October 14th 2006, Dave was enroute to a vehicle roll over striking a telephone pole and rolling. Dave was extricated and sent by helicopter to London, Ontario. On November 13th 2006, Dave passed while never having regained consciousness.
We were honoured to have in attendance Ms. Shirley Stanway, Dave’s Mom along with Brenda Orr, widow of Dave Mounsey. Our silver Cross parents Bob and Carol Mitchell along with Mr. Lincoln Dinning were in attendance. Corporal Matthew David James Dinning, a Canadian Military Police Officer was killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan on 22 April 2006. Colonel (Ret’d) Alex Ruff, federal Member of Parliament (MP) for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound was also in attendance.
