India deploys S-400. Will India be Sanctioned by the U.S.? | SANn
According to Indian media reports, Russia has started delivery of S-400 Triumf air defence systems to India. The S-400 is known as Russia's most advanced long range surface-to-air missile defence system. India has started deploying these missiles along Pakistani and Chinese border. The air defence system would give India an edge in South Asian skies as it can take out targets (aircraft and cruise missiles) from a distance of 400 km.
In October 2018, despite a warning from Trump Administration, India had signed a 5 billion dollars deal with Russia to buy 5 units of S-400.
The supply will put India at risk of sanctions from the U.S. under a 2017 American law (Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act - CAATSA) aimed at deterring countries from buying military equipment from Russia, (North Korea and Iran).
