During the last mailbag, I asked which kit to build first, and the voting was pretty clear. So here is the multi-voltage dual-polarity linear power supply kit.
Even though it didn't come with any instructions, it went together pretty easily. And it works well!
It's always amazing what oddball things you can find at dollar stores if you spend enough time looking.
Today's tear-down victim is a wifi controlled light switch. This thing was originally sold for about $60, but a few years after it's release it's on the shelf at Dollarama for $4.00
let's tear into it and see if there's anything interesting going on.
Curiosity mode: engage!

As the stuff keeps coming in from the mailbags, I find that I need to address storage again.
And another quick upgrade to the sign.
I'm trying out a different phone/camera for this video. From what I saw while editing, I'm not impressed with it's auto-focus.
How does it look to you?

This is a companion video to my "laser chase lights" video ( https://youtu.be/WnPFwCNXgo0 ).
You may want to watch that first.
This is a long, slow paced (mostly) unedited view of the soldering that was done as a "high speed montage" in that video.
The only things I cut out of this were when my head got in the way, or if I was doing unrelated things off-camera.
It's quite "warts-and-all"...
I'm not expecting a lot of people to have the patience to watch this whole thing, but who knows... Let me know what you think in the comments.

Earlier in the week I say a guy showing off his first 4017 based project. That reminded me how much I liked tinkering with this chip back when i was first learning about electronics, so in a fit of nostalgia I broke out a couple of kits to play with.
Here's the reddit thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/electronics/comments/788spx/my_first_time_working_with_a_4017_ic/
And here's the kit(s) that I used:

The first half of the video is tinkering, and the actual kit build starts around 13:15
