This is a follow-on video, clarifying and revising some of the thoughts I laid out in my earlier video on Markdown-based HTML generators. I propose a possible solution to the problem of many people misusing Markdown semantic markers to apply incorrect semantics to text in their web pages, when what they really wanted was bold or italic text. It's quite simple: just strip some of the semantics out of the output.
Basically, rather than mapping *text* on <em%gt;text</text> by default, I think that it might be worth considering having markdown to HTML translation systems map it to <i<text</i>, or a span with custom CSS ensuring italic rendering. This will result in
a) the page looking the same
b) the user of the site generator not needing to change any behavior
c) complete prevention of incorrect assignment of emphasis semantics to text
At the cost of technically breaking compliance with the "spec" (insofar as Markdown actually has a specification to begin with), and requiring explicit use of HTML if emphasis semantics are desired.
I think this is probably a viable trade-off, in light of how these tags are generally used anyway. But I'm, obviously, not 100% sure of it as a solution. I suppose that this "problem" of incorrect semantics may end up being considered insignificant to begin with, in which case no changes will be necessary. What do you think?

Time for something different! We continue a short gameplay commentary of an old city builder game called Zeus. It's a Windows game, but here we are running it on Linux via Lutris.
If you're interested in the game, it's readily available at Good Old Games, and you can find it here,

In this tutorial, I discuss briefly the topic of User Groups on a Linux system. In addition, I introduce a few useful commands that can be used to manage them.
groupadd - adds a group
groupdel - deletes a group
gpasswd - group management utility, can add or remover users from groups, among other things.

tee is a little program that allows you to write data to both standard output and a file at the same time. It is quite useful for extracting a copy of data out of the middle of a complex pipeline without needing to break your pipeline up.

And thus a series was born... Another Canvas rant video. Canvas has enough stupid problems that I can keep these coming for quite some time!
In this one, I complain about Canvas's built in messaging functionality, and some features that it appears to be missing for no good reason.
