HUMAN TETRIS aus Moskau, deren Name sich von einer merkwürdigen japanischen TV-Show ableitet, haben gemeinsam mit den stilverwandten MANICURE und vor allem den brillanten MOTORAMA, deren „Pine“ wie einer der besten Songs vom „Unknown Pleasures“-Album von JOY DIVISION klingt, diesen Geist wiederaufgenommen. Mit Songs wie „Things I don’t need“ oder „Machine“ schaffen es HUMAN TETRIS, eine dunkle und gleichsam melancholische Aura zu kreieren, welche beispielsweise INTERPOL bereits auf ihrem Debütalbum vorgelebt haben (und so nie wieder erreicht haben), um diese mit der artifiziellen Dunkelheit von JOSEF K, THE WAKE (man denke an deren Song „Judas“) oder ATTRITION zu verweben. Die junge Band um Gitarrist und Sänger Arvid Kriger, der dem Bariton Ian Curtis’ gekonnt nacheifert, hat vor allem deshalb Charme, weil sie völlig auf überflüssigen Produktionsballast verzichten und ihre dunkle Ästhetik auf ihren Nukleus reduzieren. Gegründet haben HUMAN TETRIS 2008 vier junge Musiker, die, so möchte man fast unterstellen, mit einem gekonnten „Bonjour tristesse“ die Musikszene in Russland bereichern. Bassist Maxim Zaytsev beantwortete einige Fragen. Euer Song „Things I don’t need“ hat den gleichen dunklen Glanz wie etwa „Stella was a diver and she was always down“ vom INTERPOL-Debüt. Ihr scheint gerade diesen Sound zu kultivieren. Kannst du etwas zu euren Einflüssen sagen? Speziell dieser Song wurde auch von der dunklen und frühen New Yorker Post-Punk- und New-Wave-Ästhetik beeinflusst, aber auch von aktuellen schwedischen Bands wie WHITEST BOY ALIVE oder BOAT CLUB. Dieser Song ist schon speziell und eigentlich nicht typisch für unseren Sound, deshalb haben wir ihn auch nicht auf eine unserer EPs genommen. Aber weil wir von Einflüssen sprechen: Natürlich ist das primär diese Art von Post-Punk, wie er Ende der Siebziger und Anfang der Achtziger von Bands wie THE WAKE, JOSEF K, THE SOUND, GANG OF FOUR oder den SAD LOVERS & GIANTS gespielt wurde. Allerdings bewegen wir uns gerade etwas weg von dieser dunklen Facette des Post-Punk hin zu einem etwas „versöhnlicheren“ Sound bei unserem in Kürze erscheinenden Album. Mir war bis vor kurzem nicht bewusst, dass es in Moskau eine so große Anzahl wirklich großartiger, von Post-Punk geprägter Bands wie eben HUMAN TETRIS, MANICURE oder MOTORAMA gibt. Kannst du etwas zu diesem Zirkel von Bands sagen und in welchem Verhältnis ihr zueinander steht? MOTORAMA kommen ja nicht aus Moskau, sondern aus dem Süden Russlands, aus Rostow am Don, aber du hast schon Recht, es hat sich sehr gut entwickelt mit guten Bands in jüngster Zeit in Russland. Du solltest dich dann auch mit den PUBLICS, DZIERZYNSKI BITZ, POMPEYA, BRANDENBURG und THE CHESHIRE STRANGLER beschäftigen. Natürlich gibt es da vielfältige Berührungspunkte und wir arbeiten oft zusammen. So haben uns MOTORAMA beim Artwork für unsere EPs unterstützt. Sasha von den PUBLICS hat bei verschiedenen Gigs in Kiew Bass bei uns gespielt, als ich verhindert war. Letztlich geht es aber darum, dass wir zusammen Spaß haben, wir erzwingen da nichts.
