Racial justice activists cheer on Los Angeles Police Department Chief Michel Moore as they protest the death of George Floyd, an African-American man who died during an arrest by police in Minneapolis. Moore has said in a statement on Twitter that the actions of a Minneapolis police officer kneeling on Floyd’s throat in a video that captured the incident “were incredibly disturbing and go against the basic law enforcement principle of preservation of life.”

While there have been violent clashes between some US police and demonstrators protesting against the killing of George Floyd, other officers have been showing signs of solidarity and reaching out.
Some police have taken a knee with protesters in a gesture of respect while others have marched alongside demonstrators calling for change or simply hugged them.
The killing of George Floyd, 46, on 25 May has sparked days of mass protests and unrest across the US. Mr Floyd died after he was pinned at the neck by a white Minneapolis police officer.
Derek Chauvin, the officer caught on video with his knee on Mr Floyd’s neck, has been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter.

A San Jose, California police officer has been taken off the street and is now under an Internal Affairs investigation, after video surfaced of him appearing to taunt protesters on Friday.
Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson spoke with demonstrators who were met by police officers in riot gear and then joined the protest, according to CNN affiliate WEYI.
