3 Things To Actively DO That Increase Influence | The FRONT | Mike Phillips / Leadership / YES!

Leadership IS influence.
If you engage actively in these three things, you can increase your influence and your leadership aptitude.
1. Know yourself and your team. You must play to your strengths as well as your team's strengths. Making sure to address and develop weak areas to minimize or eliminate shortcomings in a business environment. If you know yourself well you can lead others to success. If you know your team well, then you can drive them to greatness, and they will feel confident and help to build your vision along the way.
2. Be an open and authentic positive influence. Leadership is influence, it’s not a title. Leadership is similar but not the same as a management role. The reason is because influence can come from anyone at any level and in any role. Therefore leadership can come from any level in an organization. Leadership has to do with lifting other people up and working towards a common goal. When you work together and especially when you achieve together it builds greater influence.
*** The cleanest and best leadership comes when those around you are influenced by who you are and your life in a positive way. “Who you are speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you are saying.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
3. Active Listening. Leadership has three key factors: to listen, to inspire and to empower. Over time, I've had to learn to do a much better job of listening - actively listening – meaning I am making sure I really understand the other person's point of view. I’m not listening to respond, but listening to understand. I learn from them, and I use that as leverage to grow, and inspire the people I am working with.
Leaders have clarity of purpose and they communicate well to get their ideas across to others. They have confidence, not arrogance. They are confident in themselves, their abilities and how they can groom others to have a high level of confidence. And they have the courage to tackle the unknown. They can leap and lead in the darkness, knowing that they can shine their own light to see enough to guide other people no matter what.

Mike Phillips shares info on our 1958 Chevy Apache Pickup. It is very well kept and mostly restored and ready to drive - For Sale Right Now!
The body on the truck is very straight. The previous family had the vehicle in their family for the past 53 years!
The paint has been touched up on areas of the frame and much of the engine interior being repainted. There are several areas where we have paint matched minor chips or scratches and the paintwork is excellent!
The truck has a almost new "GM 350 Crate Motor." We do not have documentation to support this, although our inspection leads us to believe this is true. We have gone through the truck to repair any leaks. Many features were tightened up and adjusted by our master mechanic. The interior is very clean and looks almost new! Mechanically the truck is in very good condition.
The Apache's glass and mirrors are in good condition except the drivers wing vent window does have some bubbling around the edges. The body trim pieces are in good condition and the bumpers are in excellent shape. The bed of the truck has fresh varnish and the wood is in great condition overall.
Overall we believe this is a solid truck for the year and it could make a good daily driver in it's existing condition and with only minor updates you could continue to have a beautifully restored 1958 Apache Pickup.

It's very difficult to have the wherewithal to both DO great things and TALK ABOUT DOING GREAT THINGS at the same time. So if you have to do just one, which is better?
I personally believe it is better to take action, to do. Talking about accomplishment, planning and being strategic is great, and they are necessary. But, execution on tasks is a real key to success!
Action. It truly does speak louder than words. So sometimes it's necessary to just be quiet and get on your game and execute. It's not necessary to brag, or speak heavily on the subject. People will see what you are doing with their own eyes, and then they will believe in it.
You must trust that you are ready. So take action... go, go, go - wherever you are, it's important to START.

Some key things that Jairek shared tonight which I thought were great! I asked the question, "What are some key characteristics that define a good, or great leader?"
1. The psychology of the leader determines their actions. Their psychology and how they view things will determine how effective they are.
2. Transparency. What people see on the surface and the underlying things that are happening... are they congruent? We have to be real with what we are saying and doing.
3. Alignment in making the company a great place. With as much time as people spend at work. Give people a place that they can enjoy as humans. A work environment that allows them to enjoy their life!

2018... You need to stay true to the basics! Don't... Abandon... The... Basics!
If you are anywhere online right now, there are stories and ads all over the place that are urging you to make your resolutions! In fact, many of the articles are similar to... "9 Steps for Success, in 2018!" "Here is how to conquer everything in 2018!" "New Year, New You!" You know the drill. Just google 2018 New years resolutions and prepare to be bombarded.
Here is the number one thing that will keep you successful in 2018 - staying true to yourself and staying true to your basic principles. The core processes and principles that got you to see success in your past, will be the launch of your future success as well. If you're in sales, for example, stay rooted in your basic sales process. Whatever your process is, stay true to that core.
You should always be on the lookout for new and innovative ideas, processes and products - but, don't lose sight of your core. Add-ons should bring value to the way you already do business.
Your passion for what you do and who you are is what has gotten you to see some success already. Hold onto that, and build on it. Have a killer 2018!

The FRONT - NEVER GIVE UP! You can do it!
My inspiration today is brought to you by our kickboxing coach. Mr. Russ (Ruselis). He is out of this world and inspires many people every day with his smile and upbeat attitude. When inspiration hits (like it did me this morning in class...) you have to take it and run with it!
Watch the video above to get the #IMPACT. My wife and I take a kickboxing class on Wednesdays and we run drills; one minute on the heavy bag, one minute off the heavy bag (workout and calisthenics). While a minute may seem like a short period of time, in business, and in life, we often take our minutes for granted. In a workout drill, one minute can seem like an eternity... sweat, wearing out, pain, shaking. Our coach was on fire this morning (as were my legs). He made this simple, yet profound statement. "Don't Give Up! Never Give Up! When you stop... you only get good at one thing... giving up. So, just keep going!"
That simple statement struck a chord and got me all fired up and allowed me to persevere... until...
Your life, our lives, they are quite similar to that ONE MINUTE. It feels like an eternity, a long ride. But, when you look back on it all, those minutes they all stack up. NEVER GIVE UP!
