Bangkok is out of the Red zone and things are starting to liven up again. It used to be known as the city that never sleeps but for now, bedtime is 12am - lol

We had a busy Friday lined up today with a small birthday party for one of our regular patrons of the meetup group. Then we took a long stroll up to see Suzy at the down under bar to kick off our Friday evening. We then moved out to the night club scene and we saw a noticeable increase in the number of patrons under the neon lights.

What's a typical day living in Thailand as a retiree?

It's not all rainbows, lollypops and bar girls living in Thailand as a retiree, so I thought I might do a day in the life of a Thailand retiree. of course, my lifestyle will be different to someone living in one of the holiday resorts, but if you choose to live here, I'm sure you'll soon be looking for alternatives to the endless stream of go-go dancers.
In general, my regular day is quite uneventful as you will see from the video, but I do like to get out of the house whenever there is an opportunity to catch up with friends.

I chose early retirement over working the 40 40 40 plan and now I'm living stress-free as an Aussie expat living in Thailand with my Thai girlfriend. Our Video Blog covers the typical things we find ourselves doing as we build our life together living in the suburbs of Bangkok. My fiancée is a post-op ladyboy and we have been together since 2009. I finally moved to Thailand in September 2016 because the 8 years of travelling to see her were taking its toll. I try to avoid the cost of living videos because it will be different for everyone here. Every part of Thailand will have a price relative to each location and population density. We live 23km west of Bangkok, but it is still part of the Bangkok province, but Bangkok’s area will also have relative costs. Today I am just following up on a recent question from our video comments where the person wanted to know how much it costs to live our lifestyle in the Bangkok suburbs. The cost of living in Thailand will be different for everyone, and it will all come down to how much of a western lifestyle you choose to live..

For those people not familiar with the provinces in Thailand, Pathum Thani is the province just north of Don Mueang airport, just north of Bangkok. The plan that looks most promising is to team up with Chanya's uncle who lives and works in Pathum Thani and buy a large enough house for the 2 families. I realize that this might seem odd to most westerners unfamiliar with Thai family, but as we say "This is Thailand". Our first stop here is a relatively new housing village on the north side of Bang Bua Thong Road.

In the last video, I took a run into Bangkok to get the gel seat upgrade but as I mentioned, Bob also sent me his Happy Cheeks seat pad to try out. It was a quick fitting and adjustment so wanted to just have a short cruise for an hour to see how it goes.
I decided to head back to Putthamonthon where there is little traffic and lots of turns. Given that many viewers like the riding videos, I fitted the camera and headed out. Putthamonthon is really one of the nicest and greenest locations I've found in the Bangkok province but it is a Buddhist sanctuary which means it is well looked after. I highly recommend people visiting Bangkok to take the trip west of the city to check it out and possibly stop for a picnic.

Songkran might be over in the Bangkok province, but the celebrations last for around 7 days across different places in Thailand.

Songkran was officially over in Bangkok (13-15 April) but other provinces have delayed starts. In keeping with Thai tradition, we take a drive to Si Samrong Sukhothai to spend some time with mothers family. As Chai and Jep came along with us, we also took a run further north to Phrae which is where Jep grew up.
Although the temps were topping out at 42 Celsius, we had a bit of fun, especially with the karaoke. If you are part of a Thai family, you will soon find that karaoke is an integral part of Thai family culture. I am certainly not used to sleeping in the evenings without airconditioning and I'm sure I'll need to condition myself for it if I ever plan to live in the country.
On the final day, we took a gift of food and beverages to a local orphanage where we were treated with traditional folk songs by the children. One thing I wasn't aware of is how the orphanages operate as there were fewer children there than I expected. Chanya told me that although they are orphaned children, they usually have some family that they can visit. As this is the new year, some of the luckier children leave to visit extended family over the new year break.

Ok, so the first thing you're asking is what is the Motor Sport Park Suvarnabhumi? Well, it's a place where you can let your inner speed demon lose on a tight race track near the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. They host a selection of training and testing rides for various riding groups in the Bangkok province. It is a short and very tight track, but aside from the noise limit issues, you are free from law entanglements and can let loose your inner Michael Dunlop.
To be fair, this is the first time I've been to the MSP, and I'm not into the whole speed racer thing, but it was a lot of fun catching up with our crew from the MotoLOS riders group again. I was thrilled to see Koi join us today as well considering she said she couldn't make it. One of our group on the HD48 wasn't allowed to ride his bike as his exhaust was over 95dB.
Watching Por ride his Street Bob side saddle was very funny, but he did say it was the only way he could get the thing to negotiate the tight turns. I did a few laps on the Vulcan S, but it too isn't designed for race conditions. All up, everyone who came enjoyed themselves and we finished off the day with lunch at "The Nine" on Rama 9.
