Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 4 - Part 1 Prologue Introduction
And here we go. Things pick up a week after CS3 ended, and we get the MCs from the previous series to retrieve some data from Crossbell. Lloyd seems to be the hardest hitter of the group while Joshua is hands down the fastest. Due to this being the prologue, they are missing quite a few moves, and we do not have the ability to customize them in really any way. Still, we manage to fend off the newest Anguis and succeed in the mission.
So a few things: there are going to be a ton of spoilers for the Crossbell games, literally right out from the gate here. I did not expect an Anguis to be an intro boss, but we have one here, and it is the replacement for the Faceless from Sky 2. I intend to aim for daily updates here, but we will need to see what happens.
As for Cold Steel 3, the finale is significantly larger in terms of file size compared to this one. As a result, it will probably go up later on today. Luckily, the way this is set up, the only way you can see something bad happened was due to how the intro song plays out. Plus, there are a couple lines that I drop here and there.

This mission is fairly simple, even without the Dragoon that we are given on loan. While the other mechs have gotten smaller from the previous games, Paladin seems to have grown and may even rival a capital ship. Unlike the Wolf Brigade, she does not have the means to cleanse debuffs, so you can Disable her and work on her minions until you are ready to deal with her.
Shredding or dealing with the missiles in some way is preferable since that seems to be how every fight starts. The good news is that the Dragoon has a really nice assault cannon for cleaning those up, and the others can be returned to their sender. If Phoenix is able to clear out most of the enemy mechs, you can have the Maray and Archangel start sinking capital ships and before you know it, the Paladin will be alone.

The Sonja missions kick off with Max taking the first one. Sonja will prefer to fight in the fog as her passive gives her increased vision range and her power lets her see through obstacles. This means outside of fog, she is a pretty lackluster CO (usually regarded as worst in the game), and that is before you factor in her bad luck. Later games will give her some additional tools, but she still leaves a lot to be desired here.
As for the mission, you just need to leap frog into cover, and when she is ready to use her power, feel free to just lash out at her as she will see you in hiding anyway. The annoying part is that she stocks on indirects like Grit, so there will usually be terrain stopping you from making a straight line to her. You may need to deduce where her units are through triangulation, and try to stay out of their range, especially on her power turns.

The goal here is to knock out as much stuff from Cinnabar as possible, which is why we do the Pokemon Mansion, the Gym, and then restore our fossil from Mt. Moon all at once. There is an Old Amber in Pewter City that you can get if you want Aerodactyl, but I don't, so I don't bother with it.
Ultimately, I am a little surprised with how much the Cinnabar Gym has changed from previous versions. I opt to fight all of the trainers, and you can see how Dugtrio can tear through everything. Based on what I know now, I may have gone with Poliwrath as my water type, which also would have been able to crush everything it came across. Oh well.

At the end of their ropes, the Hawks make their last stand at Solaris, intending to destroy the Solar Congress. Kryska in the Paladin takes to the field for one last time with the majority of her cohorts. We have to sink numerous ships and due to the magic of disable, we largely keep her out of the fight.
In the event you're wondering, yes, she does have the Second Wind ability when she joins you, and her damage ramps up as her HP goes down, so be careful around her. Second Wind does put her in the danger zone so her damage increases, so don't underestimate her before she finally goes down.

Since we found the map with Sonja earlier, we are able to take on the Neotank mission, which is one of the weirder ones. For one, this is the only lab mission where you have an ally, but said ally is a sitting duck and on harder difficulties, can get wiped out, costing you the mission.
The strategy here is that Sami provides cover fire with the battleships to weaken some of the enemy units and then you use up the cruiser to shoot down an air unit or two. There is no way to repair or resupply, so you need to make your shots count. Sadly, her power can't do anything here.
As for Kanbei, we need to capture the neutral properties and get a ground force out to seize the middle of the map. While that is going on, we need to develop an air force to destroy the naval units and make their way up to the top. Due to the winding path, the air units should arrive before the ground. Get in position so you can swoop in and take out the units that threaten you, then go for the rout for the win. When doing this on harder difficulties, cap may be better depending on what resistance you encountered.
