Why Egee prefers Nala instead of Apt-Get on Debian Testing
I've been mentioning Nala as an alternative to Apt for a while but I haven't explained why until now.
Nala is a front-end cli tool that works to manage your software and deb packages on Debian based distros. It's a very easy-to-use cli tool with colors and user friendly paradigms that basically make managing your software via a terminal much nicer.
Nala does have a couple of additional features that I don't have much use for, namely History (which is truncated and generally not very useful) and Fetch (which has generally poor defaults and can slow down your system if you use them improperly.)

Let's see what happens when I swap out openSUSE Leap's zypper repos with Tumbleweed's.
I've been running Leap 15.4 since June and it's been a bumpy ride. I was hoping that upgrading to the latest stuff would fix some of the issues I've been having.
A couple post-production notes and outcome of the video:
- Lutris works now
- That weird graphical corruption in Flatpak apps is gone
- Performance is generally better than it was on Leap
- System seems to run quieter (as in the fan doesn't seem to spin up as much.. cpu scheduler?)
- I didn't upgrade the Packman repo in this video which is needed for codecs and things

Despite their age, Nvidia Geforce 700 series cards are still quite capable of decent framerates, especially for the budget conscious gamer.
I bought my GTX 750ti several years ago from a friend for around $90. I recently picked up this Geforce 760 for around $80. Considering their performance ratings and price, versus other popular cards on the market, these 700 series cards are quite the bargain!
The GTX 750ti is one of the most popular mid-level Nvidia cards out there, but for around $10 more on the used market, you can find GTX 760s which is a better card all around with double the memory interface.
I did this benchmark on a Linux distribution called Solus. Solus is a general-purpose desktop distribution similar to Ubuntu but much more streamline and perfect for gaming.

Having a look at Gnome vs Plasma Desktop on Debian Bookworm to see which desktop is best for gaming performance on Linux.
This was originally supposed to be a video about Linux Gaming distros (SteamOS, etc) but I thought that a simpiler video just looking at the desktops rather than the distros would be more interesting!
There *might* be a follow up to this video comparing Mate to Lxqt depending on how much interest there is on it. This video was a lot of work to produce so it might not be any time soon. ;)

In this episode, we use Lutris, a game launcher for Linux, to install and play some Windows games.

I made this video about Lutris specifically to replace that old video I made in 2017 about Play on Linux. Technically speaking, Play on Linux is still around and it *does* work but it is not great and Lutris is better in pretty much every regard.
I used Pop_OS (which is based on Ubuntu) for this video because it comes pre-installed with everything you need to get Lutris up and running right out of the box.
That's right - with Pop_OS no PPAs are required, no additional dependencies are required, and your display drivers will work straight out of the box. What's not to love about that?!
Fun Fact: Lutris is written in Python 3.x whereas Play on Linux is written in Python 2.7.

In this episode, we'll be looking at Zorin OS Core 15.2, an Ubuntu-based distribution released on March 5th, 2020.
ZorinOS is an interesting distro, being based on Ubuntu and consisting of several different versions. I looked at Zorin OS Core in this review but I am also interested in seeing what Zorin OS Lite has to offer.
Zorin OS ships with Gnome 3 with a customized panel, possibly just Dash to Dock with some custom styling. Zorin has a few custom apps, an appearance customizer, and Zorin Connect which seems to be a bridge similar to KDE Connect.
ZorinOS claims to be a "beginners Linux distro" but based on the issues I had with it and the lack of welcome app, I wouldn't recommend it to Linux newbies.

I've been secretly running Fedora 25 for a week or two and now it's time to upgrade!
I've always heard that Fedora has a rough time with Nvidia drivers so I was a little worried that the upgrade would wreck my display and force me to boot into a tty.
Installing the Nvidia drivers on Fedora 25 was super easy. I actually just used the RPMFusion repo and followed their instructions. Maybe with some GPUs you have to get the driver from Nvidia and boot into a tty to install it but apparently not with my GTX 750ti
I'm really enjoying Fedora and I've been really impressed with how functional and stable it is. So far the only issue I've had with it has been around video rendering. I might just jump ship from ElementaryOS and Ubuntu land to Fedora full-time.
