Death pit + save spot - [Game Maker Studio 2 | Basics]
This basic video tutorial shows you how to setup an instant death pit/area and a save spot the easy way in GameMaker Studio.
The concept is actually quite easy. You simply need 2 objects. One for the death pit which is a simple rectangle that checks for a collision with you player. The other one a save spot that is being placed on strategic places as a teleport destination. Upon collision of the player with the death pit the player is being teleport to the nearest instance of the save spot. Thats it.
There are of course more difficult and elaborate ways to do that with for example an array structure where you save you last positions and get teleported back to one of those.
This video tutorial shows you how to make a quicksave and quickload with the inbuild save function in gamemaker studio. Very easy to use for fast jumping between save points.

This video tutorial is meant to give you an insight into draw events with primitives that can create polygons in gamemaker studio. These polygons are mostly triangles and can be layered with textures from the texture page. These primitives can be used on one side for drawing custom shapes which always stay sharp. On the other hand you can use primites to create polygon structures with a texture overlay to create some graphical effects which are not so easily possible with regular draw events.

This visual effects video tutorial shows you how to make a overlay for any sprite that animates on it in GameMaker Studio.
What is the idea behind this?
This method simply uses a surface that draws over the original sprite. This may sound banal but is actually quite powerful to save tons of time if you intend to make a neat animation for a weapons sprite or something that is being filled or loaded only on the sprite itself.
Where is this being used?
Item showcases, loading animations or simple user interface elements as a simple but neat eyecandy effect.

This advanced video tutorial shows you two ways how to make invisible/fake walls in gamemaker studio. The idea behind this concept is that these walls look identical to regular walls and seem to limit the player where he can walk. But it is in the end a only an optical illusion created to be a secred to be uncovered by the player. '
The easy way to make such a wall is to make an regular object that looks like the environment and by colliding with the player it turns its alpha to a transparency close to 0 where the player can see through.
The other way is to create a collision object that only masks the collision space to be which controls a shader that change the alpha channel of the whole layer in question (which is here a tileset layer).

This basics video tutorial shows you how to change the window title in GameMaker Studio 2.
The idea is quite simple. You want to change the display name, the window title or the splash screen name into the name of your game. The default is set to "Created with GameMaker Studio" which is nice but not good enough for us. So let's fix this little issue for good with "window_set_caption(caption);"

This basics video tutorial shows you how to make a point and click movement in GameMaker Studio the easy way.
You may have seen/played games like Diablo or Path of Exile or even a moba. All these use the same movement system: Point and click.
So all you need to understand here is that gamemaker has such a function ready to be used. This move_towards_point function does basically one thing. It moves the object constantly towards a set direction with a speed value. So in theory when you set it up once, it will follow this movement into infinity, which I guess you don't want. You simply implement a breaking condition that sets the speed to 0 when set destination point is being reached. And that's pretty much it.
