Is GBTC a Safe Investment?
In this video, I discuss whether GBTC is a safe investment, and how it compares to owning Bitcoin directly.
I do not like GBTC, for the following reasons:
1) 2% annual management fee
2) Impossible to know where the premium/discount of GBTC to BTC will be when you need to sell
3) Owning GBTC means that you need to rely on Grayscale and Coinbase Custody to keep your Bitcoin secure. If they get hacked, you are out of luck. SIPC or FDIC insurance will not cover you, and it appears that Coinbase Custody does not carry sufficient insurance to cover everyone if there is a big hack.
Becoming a Bitcoiner means learning to assert your own monetary sovereignty. This means to stop relying on the Fed, the government, or the traditional financial system to keep you or your wealth safe.

In this video, I discuss how SPACs work, and how they have evolved as an interesting alternative to the more traditional IPO route for taking a company public.
A SPAC (Special Purpose Acquisition Company) is a shell company or "blank check company" that is used to raise capital and then merge with a private company, in order to bring it public.
Prominent examples include Nikola, DraftKings, and Virgin Galactic.
The SPAC space has recently fallen on hard times, with many SPACs trading close to or even below their NAV ($10). This creates an interesting opportunity for those who are willing to dig down into each SPAC, examine the quality of the sponsor/management team, and weigh the risk/reward of the investment, given that $10 is a floor for most SPACs.

In this video, I discuss the open communications protocol Nostr (unstoppable free speech) as the natural complement to Bitcoin (unstoppable money).
Nostr can be used for many things, but its current most popular use case is as a decentralized Twitter substitute. Because Nostr is decentralized, it is able to route around all the problems with censorship that come with traditional social media platforms.
You can access Nostr using many different clients (my favorite is Damus for IOS), and your profile, posts, and followers can follow you wherever you go.
Nostr also allows people to verify that posts were actually made by you (or at least by whomever controls your private key).
The native currency of Nostr is Bitcoin (sats), which means that Nostr can continue to grow with Bitcoin, and vice versa.
When Bitcoiners use Nostr, they become unstoppable at multiple levels.

In this video, I discuss the relationship between Tether (USDT) and Bitcoin, including the questions of Tether's backing as well as possible risk scenarios for Bitcoin if Tether were to fail.
According to Tether's own recent disclosures, USDT is not fully backed by USD cash and T-Bills. Rather, it has a significant mix of risky assets, including commercial paper, fiduciary accounts, corporate bonds, and even precious metals.
Holding USDT is risky, in my opinion, for this reason.
USDT does not pose a risk for the Bitcoin ecosystem. In fact, if USDT were to fail, there would almost certainly be strong upwards price pressure on Bitcoin as traders sought to dump their USDT for USD and BTC.
The only money printing pumping Bitcoin is the central banks'. Bitcoin has no top, because fiat money has no bottom.

In this video, I discuss the White House attack on Bitcoin mining in the form of the proposed DAME tax on the electricity used by Bitcoin miners.
Not only will this tax drive Bitcoin miners to countries with dirtier grids, it is an unfair attack on a completely legal and legitimate industry that provides jobs and tax revenues.

In this video, I discuss the risks of issuing an ETF for a proof of stake coin like Ethereum.
The biggest risk is that regulated entities that hold and stake the ETH (BlackRock, Coinbase, etc) could be pressured by the government that regulates them to censor transactions at the base layer. If you ruin the censorship-resistance of ETH, there's no good reason for people to use it:
-- It's not a good store of value
-- Transactions are slower and more expensive than using US fiat banking rails
-- It's no better than PayPal or Venmo when it comes to government or corporate censorship and freezing of funds
Under proof of stake, owning more coins gives you more control over the network, including the ability to censor wide swathes of transactions.
The end game for ALL "successful" proof of stake blockchains is centralization of validators among regulated entities like exchanges, custodians, ETF providers, etc
The world is going to have to learn the hard way what makes proof of work so special. And when they learn that, they are going to realize that there is only one proof of work coin that has global recognition, an immaculate conception, and network anti-fragility.
And that's Bitcoin.
