1DULUTH, Minn.- After nearly two hours of police surrounding the evacuated Kwik Trip on 27th Ave. W, an armed individual was arrested without incident outside the store Saturday. According to a spokesperson with the Duluth Police Department, Officers responded to an armed individual at the Kwik Trip. They blocked off Michigan Street and evacuated the store. The Tactical Response Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team responded to provide resources to resolve the incident quickly and safely. Minnesota State Patrol says a Rice County Sheriff's deputy was headed eastbound on Morristown Boulevard near Holland Avenue in Morristown, Minnesota just after 2 a.m. when he struck a 52-year-old woman with his squad. The deputy driving the squad was Sgt. Trevor Peterson, the sheriff's office later released. Troopers say it appears the woman was in the roadway when she was struck. The sheriff's office later identified the victim as Stephanie Marie Wesley from Faribault, Minnesota. The sheriff's office says his status as a deputy has not changed as of Saturday afternoon, and they're awaiting a completed investigation report from the Minnesota State Patrol. "Sgt. Trevor Peterson is on scheduled days off at this time. We are waiting for the results of the official State Patrol Investigations before we will determine if we will initiate an administrative investigation," Rice County Sheriff Jesse Thomas told FOX 9. "If an administrative investigation is deemed necessary we will begin that process." This marks the second time in two months that an on-duty Sheriff's deputy has hit and killed someone with their squad car in the state of Minnesota.  In December 2021, a deputy with Wright County ran over 84-year-old Harry Welter in St. Michael when responding to a medical call.
