Al's GNS3 community entry:
================================
https://gns3.com/discussions/docker-u...
Transcription:
Since I started recording the Python for Network Engineers videos, the number one request has been to demonstrate the use of SSH with Python and Cisco devices.
So as we can see here, there are a number of requests for SSH and Paramiko.
This is one of multiple videos teaching you network programmability using Python and GNS3.
Al, as an example has even gone further and created an entry on the GNS3 community showing you how to install Paramiko and Netmiko on the Ubuntu client that I've been demonstrating in these videos. So thanks Al for sharing.
I'm going to demonstrate how to install Paramiko using the steps that Al has shared on the GNS3 community.
In this topology I've got an Ubuntu docker container which I've configured to use DHCP. That's now booted and got an IP address from the NAT cloud.
So as an example the Ubuntu client can ping google.com. The Cisco switch in this topology has just booted but has no configuration on it.
So I'll demonstrate in a moment how to configure SSH on the switch and then we'll configure the Ubuntu client to use Paramiko and SSH to configure the switch. The module that I'm going to use for SSH is Paramiko.
This is a Python implementation of the SSH version 2 protocol which provides both client and server functionality. You can find out more information about Paramiko on paramiko.org or docs.paramiko.org.
I've written a script which I've linked below on github that imports Paramiko and uses SSH to connect to the Cisco switch and configure some options on the switch. We'll configure some loopback interfaces and then we'll run a loop to configure VLANs on the switch.
So I'm hoping that this video and script help you configure network devices using SSH rather than just relying on telnet.
In this exam

Learn Python programming with GNS3. In this series of videos I will show you how you can quickly and easily program Cisco networks using Python. In this video we program a Cisco IOSvL2 switch with VLANs by using Python on an Ubuntu Docker container.
Script used in this video is available on GitHub here:

This is one of multiple videos teaching you network programmability using Python and GNS3. So currently we have two scripts: Python1script1 and Pythons1script1. What I'll do is copy the s1 script to a file called s1script2.py notice we've changed the extension to the py
If I try and run at that script notice we’re told that the command is not found.
We could still use Pythons1 and run the script this way and notice the changes have been made to the switch we can see here that the switch was configured. But we may want to improve things by simply running the script as follows.
So let's use nano to edit the script.
Notice the difference it's now showing the text in colors so that's a lot nicer but what I'm also going to do is a reference Python in the script.
Now in Unix and executable file that's meant to be interpreted can indicate which interpreter to use by having hash exclamation mark or pound-bang if you prefer at the start of the first line followed by the interpreter.
So as an example, how does the operating system know if this is a bash script or a Python script?
This allows us to indicate that information so I'm going to save the script. Now when I run it, it's still not running. A good Linux command is clear to clear the screen so at the
moment we have our script but it's not executable. I'm going to change the permissions on the script to make it executable.
So I'm going to specify that the script is now executable by adding the executable permission using change mod +x. Notice it's a lowercase x.
ls now shows us that the script color has changed so I can now run the script simply by entering its name. And notice the script run.
Now the best way to find files within this directory is to use ./ and then search for the name. Notice when I press tab it autocompletes but if I do this it's not going to autocomplete.
So get into the habit of using ./ for files in the local directory , I’ll break that script.
So to prove that this works, nano and specify the script. So let's edit the script and what I'll do is simply add another VLAN to our switch.
So I'm going to specify VLAN_7 and giv

Use a TFTP Server to Backup and Restore a Configuration
This is a step-by-step approach to copy a configuration from a router to a TFTP server, and back to another router. Before you proceed with this method, make sure you have a TFTP server on the network to which you have IP connectivity.
At the Router prompt, issue the enable command, and provide the required password when prompted.
The prompt changes to Router#, which indicates that the router is now in privileged mode.
Copy the running configuration file to the TFTP server:
CE_2#copy running-config tftp:
Address or name of remote host []? 64.104.207.171
Destination filename [ce_2-confg]? backup_cfg_for_my_router
!!
1030 bytes copied in 2.489 secs (395 bytes/sec)
CE_2#
Open the configuration file with a text editor. Search for and remove any line that starts with "AAA".
Note: This step is to remove any security commands that can lock you out of the router.
Copy the configuration file from the TFTP server to a new router in privileged (enable) mode which has a basic configuration.
Router#copy tftp: running-config
Address or name of remote host []? 64.104.207.171
Source filename []? backup_cfg_for_my_router
Destination filename [running-config]?
Accessing tftp://10.66.64.10/backup_cfg_for_my_router...
Loading backup_cfg_for_router from 64.104.207.171 (via FastEthernet0/0): !
[OK - 1030 bytes]
1030 bytes copied in 9.612 secs (107 bytes/sec)
CE_2#

This lab is consists of multiple tasks where you have to backup and restore configurations and operating systems on network devices.
In the first part you need to backup both the running and startup configurations of the router and the switch.
You also need to backup the operating systems of both the router and the switch. And then you need to verify that the configurations and operating systems are available on the TFTP server.
So on the TFTP server, go to Services, TFTP and make sure that the running configurations, startup configurations and operating systems have been backed up to the TFTP server.
In Part 2, you need to create a loopback interface on the router with IP address of 1.1.1/32
You then need to save the router’s configuration and verify that the startup
