Deeper Commentary. Joe Satriani once explained about the crafting of music, if you have a simple chord progression, you can increase the complexity of the melody; when you have a complicated chord progression, you will be forced to simplify the melody. Thus, it is a useful method to focus on a few modes, and dwell inside that mode for some time, before shifting to another mode. Perhaps only use a handful of modes, and then you can increase the complexity of the melody. For an electric lead guitarist, we like complex melodies - it makes what we do fun! For this particular song, I used only two modes: One Mode for both the beginning and end, and then the second mode for the middle variation part. So, only two modes, and with these two "chords" as it were, I could get fairly complex in the melody without losing a grip on the foundation and grounding of the song, because the mode was the grounding of the piece.
