How Close Are We To Genetic Engineering Designer Babies? [CRISPR]
? DO NOT CLICK HERE TO SUBSCRIBE➡️ http://bit.ly/Hal9o0o ? ⚉ How Close Are We To Genetic Engineering Designer Babies? [CRISPR] DNA modified in human embryos now, we may one day edit DNA through generations, radically altering the genetic structure of a population. One reason to seek germline editing is to correct dangerous genetic mutations, but CRISPR'ing human embryos will also unveil insights into the very first stages of human embryo development. We may only solve issues of infertility, but maybe also encourage same-sex couples to have genetic child. - - - ? #Science #Technology #Innovation
? Geneticists have mapped out the technology road map needed to create synthetic biology. They say we are in the era of genomics, but there is still a long way to go. Synthetic biology aims to apply engineering concepts to biology and make it more efficient. Gene-editing prowess has come a long way, but we still fail to make widespread improvements to the genome at the same time. New enzyme-based methods that can generate long and precise sequences provide much more promise in the long term. The goal is to find ways to prevent multiple guide RNAs from communicating with each other.

⚉ Academic figures urge us to rethink knowledge in the light of future technological development. Tom Lombardo and Ray Todd Blackwood are fighting for a new concept of wisdom, they say. In their paper, they discuss innovative concepts that will train humanity for the future, soon to be cyborgs. Lombardo: It may sound like science fiction to teach these "cyborgs," but if you pay attention to yourself and the world around you, you are a cyborg all along. The last few years have seen impressive advances in both brain-machine interface hardware and applications.
Future schools would teach a modern form of hybrid human-machine: smart cyborgs. The aim of higher education is to provide students with the degree that society tells them they need. The Smart Cypriot Lombardo and Blackwood suggest that knowledge will be the core goal of education. Lombardo has developed a rigorous two-year basic curriculum plan aimed at cultivating expertise for new university graduates. The writers outline a list of characteristics that can affect our decision-making as we work to tackle global problems and pave a more promising future.
You will see the new world emerging from a prism of wonder, excitement and interest. We will be using interactive artificial intelligence as a problem-solving method and as a means of limitless knowledge.

? German and French researchers create synthetic versions of chloroplasts, organelles where photosynthesis occurs. They used microfluidics to build cell-sized water droplets suspended in oil as compartments for critical reactions. The synthetic system was able to fix carbon in the presence of light like a plant and had all the basic characteristics of photosynthesis.
The technique may be more effective than natural photosynthesis because it does not require photorespiration, a wasteful by-product of natural pathways that use oxygen to generate CO2. It could open the door to the development of genuinely self-sustaining artificial life forms, the researchers say.
Researchers have created a "synthetic chloroplast" that can be programmed to self-repair and self-replicate. The authors say there is scope for pairing this system with other cell-free pathways developed by synthetic biologists. This could make it possible to prototype new metabolic processes before synthetic biologists implant them into cells.

? Researchers at the University of Arkansas have developed a system that can process blood in a manner comparable to biological nephrons. They used a porous mesh made of platinum between two ion-exchange wafers to create a wafer that moves ions across membranes using an electrical field. Scientists have failed to produce viable therapies for kidney disease and renal failure. 100,000 people in the US die every year waiting for a kidney transplant. The system was identified in a recent paper published in Nature Communications Materials, which you can check out in the description below.
The machine could function as a stand-alone device or in combination with peritoneal dialysis to monitor the chemistry of treatment solutions. In the US alone, more than 93,000 people are currently on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. A fully functional artificial kidney is probably still years away at best, but scientists are making steady strides in the re-creation of this essential organ.

? Astronomers estimate there may be 300 million possible alien Earths, and maybe a lot more. Alan Stern: If we discover inner ocean planets are as common around other stars as they are here, it will increase the number of opportunities for life to form throughout the galaxy. He says this could explain why we have yet to uncover persuasive evidence of other advanced civilizations out there. Stern: It's early days for determining the makeup of exoplanets, let alone their moons. The outer solar system is teeming with water, frequently in the form of vapor or ice.
Scientists believe underground seas exist on Jupiter's moon Europa, Saturn's moons Enceladus and Titan. These inner ocean worlds may be among the greatest areas in the solar system to seek life beyond Earth. If they are frequent, it is significantly less likely that we are alone in the universe, but it may be more difficult to establish the case. Astronomers have found that the Earth's magnetic field is not strong enough to protect it from asteroids, comets, explosives, and dangerous stereos from the host stars of the nearby supernovae. Such planets need little for strong magnetic fields, such as Earth, to be able to withstand them.

? Mining an asteroid operates on straightforward principles: pick an asteroid, relocate it to a location where it can be processed easily, and then disassemble it to create valuable products. Mining on Earth cannot be replaced because of the cost - currently, asteroid mining faces precisely this issue. We need to locate the ideal asteroid and transport it there now that we have an electric asteroid-mining vehicle. Although electrical engines are not strong enough to fly into space once there they may travel extremely far with relatively little fuel. To put the asteroid in a stable orbit around Earth and so conserve more fuel, we can exploit the Moon's gravitational pull.
This is not science fiction in any way; we could begin constructing this future right now. We don't need novel physics or fancy materials to enable asteroid mining, just a little shove will do.

? Think this Artificial Heart tech is ready for the consumer market yet? ?
? The artificial heart is developed by a French firm named Carmat and is intended for people with end-stage biventricular heart failure. Like a normal heart, there are two ventricles in the artificial heart, one for hydraulic fluid and the other for blood. There are four "biological" valves, so named because they are also made of cow's heart tissue. Carmat's artificial heart will be commercially introduced in Germany and France in the second quarter of this year. The company has obtained clearance from the US Food & Drug Administration to launch an early feasibility study in the US this year, with plans for a possible commercial launch by the end of this year.

? Amazon's new robotaxi has no steering wheel, brakes, or accelerator. It can drive for 16 hours straight on one full charge. Amazon purchased Zoox self-driving car startup Zoox in June. Zoox unveiled its first four-seater taxi prototype with no driver last week. The vehicle weighs 5,400 pounds, 1,000 pounds more than a mid-sized truck or SUV. It has a 133-kilowatt-hour battery that drives the car, and passengers can control climate, route and arrival time.
Zoox has developed a fleet of driverless taxis that can go 75 miles per hour and have airbags. The vehicles have cameras, radars, and sensors to prevent collisions and other accidents. Initial use will be limited to city driving, avoiding highways altogether. Amazon is investing in the company, which has a strong presence in online shopping. It's a little surprising that the tech behemoth is putting so much money into a driverless transport service.

? A new study suggests that it is possible to talk to people who are actively dreaming. The researchers were able to help answer math problems using facial expressions and eye movements. To function, you must be able to lucid dream not all dreams have overlapping themes. We can now explore the dreaming state directly and interactively. The concept of lucid dreaming seems like something out of a late-night advertisement, but we have no idea why we dream or how the contents of a dream relate to experiences or memories.
The researchers invited 36 people with the ability to lucid dream into four labs dispersed across France, Germany, and the Netherlands. They tried to communicate with their sleeping participants in somewhat different ways, something that would never be done in a scientific study.
