Wrath: Aeon of Ruin - BOSS3 The Dreadful One - All Secrets No Commentary Gameplay
No commentary playthrough of Wrath: Aeon of Ruin. Played on Hard skill level, showing all secrets.
Wrath is a boomer shooter running on the Quake 1 engine, the DarkPlaces port to be more precise, and developed by veterans of the Quake community. You'll visit 3 distinct worlds, with 5 sprawling levels each, chock full of secrets and eldritch enemies. Your main tool is your wrist blade, which you can use to lunge forward at high speed both for attacking and dealing massive damage, or performing long jumps. The gameplay itself is very standard, it's what you should expect of a Quake engined game, but it is spiced up with your standard weapons having an alt fire which in some cases, it not what you would expect, and also the 10 artifacts which work as portable powerups.
Was the 5 year wait worth it? I mean... no, there's no reason why it should have taken so long. But don't get me wrong, the game is fine, I liked it, had fun with it, and finding all secrets never felt like a chore like in other games. However, there were a few levels which felt to me more like 'Quake' levels instead of 'Wrath' ones. Not that they were bad or anything like that, level design is great, but I didn't expect full dungeon levels in Wrath.
This is played on a prerelease version dated from 20 days prior to launch, and it was an extremely polished experience, aside from a couple broken secrets which I guess will be fixed by the time you read this.

Visitarás 3 mundos distintos, con 5 enormes niveles cada uno, petados de secretos y engendros. Tu herramienta principal es tu hoja de muñeca, que puedes usar para lanzarte hacia adelante a altas velocidades para atacar y hacer mucho daño, o para hacer saltos largos. El gameplay es muy estándar, lo que podría esperar de algo corriendo en el motor de Quake, pero aderezado con el ataque alternativo de tus armas que en ocasiones no es lo que esperas, también tienes 10 artefactos que funcionan como powerups portables.
¿Merecio la pena esperar 5 años? Es decir... no, no hay razón por la que haya tenido que llevar tanto. Pero no me entendais mal, el juego está bien, me ha gustado, me he divertido con él y encontrar los secretos en ningún momento se sintio tedioso a diferencia de otros juegos. Eso sí, hubo algunos niveles que se sintieron más 'Quake' que 'Wrath' para mi. No quiero decir que fueran malos ni mucho menos, el diseño de niveles es genial, pero no esperaba niveles de puro mazmorreo en Wrath.
Esto está jugado en una versión datada a 20 días del lanzamiento oficial, pero ha sido una experiencia muy pulida, excepto por un par de secretos que estaban rotos e imagino que ya estarán arreglados para cuando leais esto.

No commentary playthrough of Christmas Carnage (aka Xmas Carnage), running under DOSBox Staging. Easy difficulty I guess (my German is quite bad).
Christmas Carnage is a festive first person shooter released in 1994, and developed by Soft Enterprises. If Soft Enterprises rings a bell... They have been already featured on the channel! The very same folks who developed Skout, the German Unreal!
With this game I kill three birds with a stone: a XMas special, a shitty game for the sundays, and something for the #DOSember initiative ran by retro content creators this December.
You guessed it, it's DOS Trash, a piece of shit. Certain creator who loves sewers reminded me of the existance of this one, which I haven't touched for almost 30 years. You are on a rampage to murder everything Christmas related on sight, ranging from bleeding snowmen, Santas with trenchcoat with a shotgun, elves... All with a delightful taste in art, combining digitized graphics, with pre-rendered stuff, and even some MSPaint art sprinkled on top!
Fortunately, I can vouch for the custom in-house engine... It worked! And didn't crash even once during my whole playthrough. "It's dreadful, but it's quite short", but I can't say it didn't keep me entertained. Merry Christmas!

Christmas Carnage es un shooter festivo en primera persona lanzado en 1994, y desarrollado por Soft Enterprises. Si este nombre os suena... Ya han salido en el canal, son los mismos que desarollaron Skout, el Unreal alemán!
Con este juego mato tres pájaros de un tiro: un especial de Navidad, un juego de merde para los Domingos, y algo para el #DOSember que muchos creadores de contenido están llevando a cabo este Diciembre.
Lo has adivinado, es basura de DOS, un montón de mierda. Cierto creador al que le encantan las alcantarillas me recordó de la existencia de esto, que yo no veía desde hacía casi 30 años. Estás desmadrado matando todo lo relacionado con Navidades que se cruce delante, ya sean muñecos de nieve que sangran, Papa Noeles con gabardina y escopeta, elfos... Todo con un delicioso gusto en arte, combinando gráficos digitalizados, con cosas pre-renderizadas, e incluso algo de MSPaint salpicado por encima!
Afortunadamente, puedo decir algo bueno acerca del motor creado en casa... Funciona! Y no petó ni una sola vez durante mi playthrough. "Es terrible, pero es algo corto", pero tampoco puedo decir que no me tuvo entretenido durante ese tiempo. Feliz Navidad!

No commentary playthrough of 1994's CyClones, normal difficulty, under DOSBox.
CyClones is a game released by Raven Software (Heretic, Hexen, Quake 4, Jedi Knight Academy, Soldier of Fortune) in 1994, alongside with Heretic. It uses a more advanced version of their Shadowcaster engine called STEAM. However, even with the upgrades it still looks primitive. You play as a cybernetic combat unit created to fight aliens, whose first contact wasn't exactly peaceful, through 21 levels along various missions with diverse objectives. CyClones is notorious for enforcing mouse + WASD controls (but not directly, WASD was recommended in the manual as an alternative). Although I owned this game in CD, I never got any further than level 2, the controls were weird and I always ran out of ammo. You ain't missing anything, except for the super ridiculous FMV sequence with terrible, terrible acting.

Usa una versión más avanzada de su motor Shadowcaster llamado STEAM. No obstante, incluso con las mejorastodavía dice primitivo. En él juegas como un androide creado para defender a la Tierra contra el primer contacto alienígena, que no es precisamente en son de paz, a través de 21 niveles repartidos en distantas misiones con diversos objetivos. CyClones es recordado por obligar a jugar con ratón + WASD (aunque no directamente, WASD era la alternativa recomendada en el manual). A pesar que te tenía este juego en CD, nunca llegué a pasar de la segunda misión, los controles eran raros y me quedaba sin munición. No os estais perdiendo mucho excepto por las escenas en vídeo con unos actores realmente terribles.

No commentary playthrough of the DOS FPS In Extremis. Played under DOSBox-X. I tried my best to play this game "legit", you can find the codes online, but you are supposed to find them all in-game after the first one. I think I skipped obtaining one of them.
In Extremis is a FPS released in 1993 by Delphine Software, and developed by Blue Sphere.
You are a space traveller whose ship malfunctions, only place to escape is a derelict ship which shows no signs of life aboard. Sounds familiar? If you are thinking about Alien, you deserve a cookie! Game is all about narrow corridors, angled walls a-la Wolf3D, and various types of aliens, including copyright infringing aliens, and sounds from alien too.
Game revolves around collecting keycards stored on caches, to get them you need an individual code for each floor, to get the codes you need to insert the correct keycard on a terminal, until you get green keycards to access new floors. In the caches there are also weapons and inventory items.
The good first. There is some nice art, a few cutscenes which have a 90s Euro scifi comic aesthetic. The oppresive atmosphere is also fine for 1993. Full stop. Novelty wears out fast, then you are left with 8+ hours where the resource management is your enemy... you can run out of ammo, oxygen, and health syringes since you can't avoid most damage.
Game is divided in small hubs of 2-3 floors, where you have to find the keys and the mentioned codes. Sometimes they are on the same floor you need them, others are not... And sometimes, you arrive to a new floor where you don't have the code, so you have to rush to the terminal to get it asap, but since you don't have the code, you can't get the map yet, so you'll lose a lot of resources figuring out where things are, sometimes requiring several playthroughs until you can have a plan of action. But... BUT, halfway through the game hives are introduced. Hives are Gauntlet-like monster spawners, which will rush towards your position no matter where you are. Now you also need a bomb to destroy the hive, and I'd swear some levels don't even have enough bombs. Monsters are all melee, and will uppercut in the air when hit, if enough aliens attack you, you will be on the air all the time, and unable to attack the smaller aliens. And just wait for the final boss...
This game is a chore, took me months on and off to finish it, just don't, ok?

In Extremis es un FPS lanzado en 1993 por Delphine Software y desarrollado por Blue Sphere.
Eres un viajero espacial y tu nave se avería. La única opción es ir a una nave a la deriva sin señales de vida humana. ¿Os suena? Si habeis dicho alien, mereceis un pin. El juego es de pasillos estrechos con paredes anguladas a lo Wolf3D, y varios tipos de aliens... algunos infringiendo copyright, así como los sonidos.
El juego trata de tarjetas llave almacenadas en taquillas, para abrirlas necesitas un código para cada piso, y para el código necesitas llevar otra tarjeta a un terminal, para al final conseguir llaves verdes que desbloquean pisos nuevos... En las taquillas también hay armas y objetos varios.
Lo bueno primero. Algún arte está bien, hay cutscenes que parecen un comic europeo de ciencia ficción de los 90. Y la atmósfero opresiva también sirve para 1993. Fin. La novedad se termina pronto, y te encuentras con 8h+ donde la gestión de recursos es tu enemigo... te puedes quedar sin munición, oxígeno, y jeringuillas de salud ya que no puedes evitar la mayor parte del daño.
El juego se divide en bloques de 2-3 pisos, donde tienes que encontrar las llaves y los códigos mencionados. A veces están en el mismo piso y otras no... Y a veces, llegas a un nuevo piso sin código, así que tienes que correr a por él a la terminal correspondiente para obtener, pero no sabes donde está porque para tener el mapa necesitas el código, así que perderás recursos adivinando donde está, a veces requiriendo varios playthroughs hasta que tengas un plan de acción. Pero... PERO, a mitad de juego se introducen las guaridas, que son fábricas de monstruos a lo Gauntlet, que correrán hasta tu posición estes donde estes. Ahora también necesitas una bomba para la guarida, y creo que algunos niveles ni siquiera tienen bomba. Los monstruos van todos a melee, y te levantan en aire cuando te pegan, si te están pegando varios estarás en el aire todo el rato, sin poder atacar a los aliens más pequeños. Y esperad al jefe final...

Darkest Hour was a nice Star Wars wad to have in 2001. While unfortunately it didn't sport any gameplay changes, it had decent levels, with moderate use of ZDoom stuff and it had a bit of worldbuilding with cutscenes. I guess it should be great to play with the Xim Star Wars addon, but I wanted to show the wad as it was back in the day.

Darkest Hour era un agradable wad de Star Wars para disfrutar en 2001. Aunque desafortunadamente no aporta cambios en el gameplay, tenía niveles decentes, con uso moderado de capacidades de ZDoom y historia elaborada con cutscenes. Imagino que estará genial jugarlo con addon Xim Star Wars... but I wanted to show the wad as it was back then.

No commentary playthrough of "The Wheel of Time" for PC, using the Direct3D 11 renderer addon in 4K and proper FoV. Normal difficulty.
I had an older playthrough of this title avaiable on the channel, but it is one of the victims of YouTube's color space processing from July 2020, so it now looks ridiculously dark... I can't even see s*** on my IPS panel. Since the TV Show from Amazon is premiering next week as I'm writing this, I think it's time to fix this playthrough, and improve it. I also took advantage of the situation to go up from 1080p to 4K, offer shorter level playtimes, and include the fmv cutscenes in full. I've included the mission intros as outros on the different videos, most of the cutscenes are LONG, with many of them ranging from 4mins to 10mins... So you don't have to go skipping to find the actual gameplay. I also decided to go with normal skill level after recording like 85% of the game on hard, it was turning into a miserable experience, with more enemies and no extra ammo I had to rely often on cheap tactics and even skipping enemies. Definetly not fun to watch.
Based on the books by the same name, WoT is a shooter from 1999 using Unreal Engine, and developed by Legend Entertainment, which its main point are the many avaiable spells for the player to use, ranging from lots of different attacks, to reflecting shields, levitation and many others. The game still has a small but dedicated multiplayer community, and I can see why, those spells give a lot of tools to have fun.

Tenía un playthrough anterior disponible en el canal, pero fue una de las primeras víctimas de los cambios que YouTube realizó en cómo se almacenan los espacios de color en los vídeos allá por Julio de 2020, de forma que ahora luce ridículamente oscuro... No puedo ver m***** ni en mi panel IPS. Ya que la serie de Amazon se estrena la semana siguiente a escribir esto, creo que va siendo hora de arreglar este playthrough, y mejorarlo. Aprovecho la situación para subir de 1080p a 4K, mejorar los tiempos en cada nivel, e incluir las cutscenes al completo. He incluído las intro de las misiones como outros en los distintos capítulos, ya que muchos de ellas son LARGAS, entre 4 y 10 minutos... de esta forma no tendreis que andar saltando por el vídeo para encontrar el gameplay. También he decidido jugarlo en normal después de haber grabado el 85% del juego en difícil, ya que se estaba convirtiendo en una experiencia miserable, con más enemigos y la misma munición para despacharlos, con lo que tenía que recurrir a tácticas baratas e incluso escapar de los enemigos para avan

No es el típico addon, ya que "arregla" algunos de los fallos de Quake añadiendo nuevos monstruos y armas para rellenar algunos de los roles que no están cubiertos en el original... de forma que los monstruos no son esponjas de balas. Este mod es tan popular que muchos de los mapas creados hoy en día requieren este mod.

No commentary playthrough of 1998's Star Trek: The Next Generation: Klingon Honor Guard showing all secrets. Sorry that I couldn't offer higher quality, 4K gameplay this time around, it was impossible to get it running at anything higher than 1080p. Also, the videos refused to work even after installing the required codec.
Star Trek: KHG is a first person shooter by Microprose, released in late 1998, using the Unreal Engine. And while you might be thinking that with the Unreal engine alone the game might look good, it looks nowhere as good as Unreal still does. The game is pretty 'meh' and jank, with lots of "find a small key that you might miss easily to progress" moments, movement feels floaty, and the weapons... Oh my god the weapons, they are easily 90% of what's wrong with this game: All except one, are slow projectile weapons, projectiles that your opponents dodge easily of course. You'll end relying a lot on your (super effective) melee weapons on the earlier levels, and the "shotgun" which despite being also projectile based is still fine. You'll only get one hitscan weapon, and not as much ammo for it as you would like to.

Además, los vídeos se negaron a funcionar a pesar de haber instalado el códec requerido.
Star Trek: KHG es un shooter en primera persona por Microprose, lanzado a finales de 1998, usando el motor Unreal. Y aunque pueda caber pensar que solamente con el Unreal Engine el juego podría lucir bien, la verdad es que no es tan vistoso como Unreal lo es todavía. El juego es bastante regulero, con muchos momentos de "encuentra una pequeña llave que podrás pasar de largo fácilmente", el movimiento se siente bastante "levitante", y las armas... Oh dios mío las armas, son el 90% de todo lo malo de este juego: Todas menos una son armas de proyectiles muy lentos, proyectiles que tus rivales esquivan con facilidad por supuesto. Terminarás apoyándote en tus armas cuerpo a cuerpo (que son muy efectivas), y la "escopeta" que a pesar de que también es de proyectiles es competente. Solamente existe un arma hitscan, y no tanta munición para ella como querríamos.

What you happens you pick up a meme game such as "When it's done" Duke Nukem Forever, and gets picked up from the trash can and rushed to release by another meme such as Randy Pitchford? Well, the game underdelivers. This game came out too late, and came without the layer of polish it needed for the times being. Had it come out like in... 2003 and we'd probably be talking about it as a classic. In 2011? It was so mediocre at everything and looked so dated that no doubt it got bashed. However, this isn't by any means the worst FPS ever, not even by a long stretch, the DLC is even decent.

¿Qué es lo que ocurre cuando coges un juego meme tal como "Cuando esté terminado" Duke Nukem Forever, y lo rescata del cubo de la basura otro meme tal como Randy Pitchford para apurarlo y lanzarlo? Bueno, pues que el juego no cumple expectativas. Este juego salio demasiado tarde, y vino sin la pulida que le hacía falta para los tiempos que corrían. Si hubiese salido en... 2003 probablemente estaríamos hablando de un clásico. ¿En 2011? Pues era tan mediocre y lucía tan anticuado que con razón fue vapuleado. De todas formas, este no es de ninguna manera el peor FPS de la historia, pero ni de largo. El DLC es hasta decente.
