World marks 75 years of UN Human Rights Declaration
On Sunday, the world marked the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The declaration, adopted by the UN in 1948 in the aftermath of WW2, aimed to secure universal equality, justice and the right to fundamental freedoms. But today, some critics question whether the spirit of the decree is truly being upheld in modern conflicts around the world.
Two men clashing over a Palestinian flag raised on a London lamppost ended up in an all-out brawl using the most deadly weapon widely available in the UK – the ladder. An unidentified man, unusually for London, wearing a hat with an England flag on it, took exception to a Palestinian flag hanging from a lamppost and proceeded to climb a ladder in order to remove it. This did not sit too well with the local, overwhelmingly Muslim population, one of whom stopped his car, got out, and decided to prevent the flag removal by kicking the ladder away while the man was still using it.
The resulting brawl not only saw wanton damage to a dumpster, but saw an out and out ladder war. The flag remover was shaken after his fall, and, in the confusion, was disarmed of the ladder. His flag fan opponent, now armed with said ladder, attempted to finish the job, when the flag remover pulled out a secret weapon – a backup ladder. The ultimate showdown between islamophobia and anti-Semitism saw the two men exchange mighty blows, battle across the sidewalk, and, at one point, swap ladders. The clash resulted in both men retreating when a passerby confiscated both ladders.
