On May 8, 2016, Speakers' Corner in Calgary hosted a debate between Thana Boonlert and Michelle Stirling. Boonlert is in favour of Geothermal. Stirling is in favor of coal-fired power and argues that geothermal cannot provide significant power for Albertans.

Recently David Suzuki Foundation and other environmental groups like Equiterre have made false and misleading claims that oil and gas operations are subsidized for billions by taxpayers. The opposite is true. Environmental charities are subsidized by taxpayers and they are blocking taxpaying jobs and industries through disseminating false and misleading, unbalanced information about resource industries and about climate change.

Due to the pandemic, we could not hold our Friends of Science Society's AGM as we normally do. On the upside, this means that Michelle Stirling's presentation of the past year's highlights (in this case, past 18 months) which is normally delivered in person at the event, had to be presented on video. So that gives everyone a chance to see an overview of our activities and accomplishments. We appreciate the support of our social media subscribers, our members, and our supporters. Whether you are a contributing donor, or whether you share our materials, or whether you just enjoy seeing what we have to say - thanks for helping us make it happen! If you'd like to become a member/subscriber, or if you'd like to give us a Christmas gift donation, here is the link. https://friendsofscience.org/index.php?id=160 Thank you. Note - we are a non-profit society, not a charity, and we therefore do not issue tax receipts.

Climate activists see trees as a way to get to NetZero and there's an image of a vertical forest planted on an apartment/condo block that is frequently circulated on Twitter as an idealized model. The concept was developed by Italian architect Stefano Boeri and colleagues and there is a building in Milan festooned with a careful selection of 20,000 plants, shrubs and trees. Climate activists love trees because they claim they are 'carbon sucking machines' (George Monbiot), they provide shade and beauty and oxygen - all true. But vertical forests like this impose tremendous physical stresses on a building, not to mention if an atmospheric river or a few come through, the results could be catastrophic. Likewise, cute little plants can grow into monsters with large root balls. And of course, many little critters also like to live in plants - some friendly, some not. Remember, there's an on-going tab to pay for pruning and maintenance.... The Boeri Milan project shown in the video uses 3500 cubic metres of water a year, The 27 storey building cost was €55 million ($86 million). As environmental groups begin to post responses to the Alberta Inquiry (aka Allan Inquiry), host Michelle Stirling will walk the audience through some debunking of the ENGO climate myths and moralizing, and then review an August 2020 report "Protest vs Green Trade War" on the Tar Sands Campaign. At that time, Environmental Defence Canada had issued a report claiming that the Tar Sands Campaign was nothing special - it was just citizens protesting. Friends of Science Society debunks that notion and provides evidence 'in their own words'. Additional material will show that there is no energy transition taking place and climate science has been skewed by the misuse of RCP 8.5 calamity scenario.

The premise of human-caused global warming/climate change is based on the radiative forcing theory of greenhouse gases (GHGs) - that carbon dioxide (CO2) is the main cause of warming as it absorbs and 'traps' heat from the sun within the 'blanket' of earth's atmosphere. However, over time it has become clear that carbon dioxide's warming effect (known as 'climate sensitivity') is nominal. Water vapour is the most important GHG. You can read more on the science in our Climate Science Essay on our main page http://www.friendsofscience.org There are dozens of peer-reviewed papers that now show that carbon dioxide's warming influence is nominal, and that other natural factors are more influential on climate. What happens when such a prominent theory, so influential in public policy, turns out that the strongest chain in the causal link - CO2 - is the weakest?

The first IPCC 'climate bible' reports showed that past climates in the Holocene had varied from warmer than today, to much colder than today, in a rather cyclical pattern. However, in one of the subsequent IPCC reports, a 'hockey stick' graph had been prominently displayed, which had a flat 'stick' that wiped out past cyclical variations, and a sharp uptick suggesting that human influence on climate was extreme and temperatures much higher than before. That hockey stick graph was hotly disputed. In the latest IPCC AR6 report - but only in the 42 page "Summary for Policy Makers", there is a new 'son of hockey stick' graph, which presents a similar imagery. Steve McIntrye from Climate Audit found both hockey sticks suspicious as they reminded him of questionable mining promotion graphs he had seen - and indeed, in the business world, famous hockey stick graphs include those of Enron and Groupon, to name a couple. We offer a brief overview of the make-up of the new 'son of hockey stick' - please see Steve McIntyre's detailed analysis. https://climateaudit.org/2021/08/11/the-ipcc-ar6-hockeystick/ and

Help us stop Climate Tyranny!
When Greta declares there's a climate emergency - we show you that hundreds of scientists say there is no climate emergency.
When climate activists roam schools and scare your children - we challenge them and provide you with light-hearted animated clips to calm your kids down and start a common-sense climate conversation with them.
When CBC tells you we can learn lessons on clean electricity from Hawaii - we show you that Hawaii is a tiny tropical island powered by petroleum. CBC is gaslighting you.
When the Royal Bank of Canada tells the world that Canada can decarbonize for 'just' $2 trillion a year' - we do the hard math and general engineering analysis to show you they have wildly underestimated the costs and challenges.
When Ecojustice brings children’s cases to court, claiming wildfires and extreme weather events are evidence of climate change, we show you the facts, and we follow the money.
When you feel you have no voice and no means to make your objections to climate policies public - we issue open letters, press releases, reports and videos with rational arguments, facts and important insights that you can take to your policymakers.
…support Friends of Science Society as we fight to bring common sense, reality and full cost benefit analysis back to public policy on energy and climate. Join us today - www.friendsofscience.org or donate by etransfer: contact@friendsofscience.org
