THIS IS A STUNNER hidden from the shopping street, you would never know what you are walking past. It is hidden in plain sight. MY jaw dropped when I saw what was inside this massive building. I do hope this building is protected and brought back to its former glory as its ceilings alone are a sight to behold.
Provincial Cinematograph Theatres(PCT) opened the New Victoria Theatre in Church Street, Preston on 17th September 1928.
It is a huge structure, PCT had bought up an unfinished but largely complete cinema planned to open as the Coliseum and seat 900 and turned this auditorium into the crush hall! They then employed architect W. E. Trent to build a sumptuous cine/theatre behind the existing structure complete with full stage and cafe. There was seating for 1,450 in the stalls and 670 in the single balcony. The New Victoria Theatre was equipped with a Wurlitzer 2Manual/9Rank organ that was opened by Leslie J. Rogers.
PCT were taken over by Gaumont British Theatres in February 1929, and the cinema was re-named Gaumont in 1952. It closed for sub-division in 1962 and reopened on 28th January 1963 with the circle extended forward to create a new (and much plainer) Odeon with 1,229 seats. The re-opening film was Norman Wisdom in “On the Beat” and was attended by film star Leslie Phillips and comedian Stanley Baxter. Odeon 2 was opened in 1970 using the former cafe space and seating 105. The stalls became a dance hall named Top Rank Suite with a new fully sprung maple floor installed.
The whole complex closed in September 1992 and the upper parts of the building remain unused in 2008. A nightclub operates from the former stalls/dance hall section.

Plans to demolish Crawley's largest nightclub Moka and replace it with flats have taken a step closer to being approved.
Rainier Developments Limited is proposing to demolish the 1,200-capacity nightclub, on Station Way, and build 152 apartments in its place.
The development, which would see a part nine, part 11-storey building built on the site, was discussed by Crawley Borough Council's planning committee last Tuesday (December 17).
Councillors at the meeting reviewed and backed the development, and recommended it be granted planning permission at a later date.
It's expected an official vote will be held on whether to grant developers planning permission at a meeting early next year.
As well as the 152 apartments - of which 121 are one-bedroom homes, 28 two-bedroom and three three-bedroom - plans show the ground floor will include space for commercial and retail units.
A total of 16 car parking spaces would be provided as well as four spaces for motorcycles and 219 for bicycles, while Rainier is also proposing to build a new "pocket park", as well as plant trees around the development.

Just down the road from Corsham and the famous RED DOOR in the place now known as AREA51 we found this ex-RAF quarry. Complete with its own red doors and having been used up until 2018. We know of no other youtubers who have filmed here and we were amazed at what we saw.
Located just a mile away from Ridge Quarry.Elm Park is a fairly small quarry worked with horses and carts until 1920 for Bath stone.The hard stone was used for curbstones.
Early on in the Second World War it was acquired for use by the No. 40 Group for storage of
lubricating oils under the command of RAF Quedgely.
Unlike some of the larger quarries very little conversion work was ever carried out here, lights
were only fitted in the main haulage ways and therefore it was unsuitable for use as storage for
the drums of oil so it was transferred to No. 42 Group in March 1941.
The quarry successfully trialed the storage of larger ammunition, it was perfect for this as it had
a gently sloping adit entrance fitted with a modern electric winch which meant easy access for
large heavy explosives.However as no extensive conversion work was ever carried it out it was
deemed unsuitable for further military use and the site was taken out of action in June 1943.
Elm Park was also one of the smaller quarries ear marked by the Ministry of Aircraft Production for
intended storage space for aircraft engines produced at Spring Quarry but it was never put to use.
