These are a typical pair of HIATTS 2010. The regular size of their chain-link handcuffs. But these are from British military surplus. They are in stunning condition. They look almost unused and have good, strong springs in the mechanism! These have the year of manufacture on them (1992), they have the NSN number (NATO Stock Number) stamped on and if that wasn't cool enough, they have the British military Broad arrow or Crows-foot stamped on them too which is just the cherry on top! All the features you'd expect. They double lock, have 3 pawls and they back-load. Soon as I got them I did some maintenance on them just in case. I brushed any crap out of the teeth (pawls & bows), polished them with Peek metal cleaner and then waxed them. Also I lubricated the boss rivet, swivels and internal mechanisms with WD40 Specialist Dry PTFE lubricant. These are one of my pairs which are so shiny, it's hard to photograph them because they want to look black, due to reflecting my camera's body lol. These are S.P.E or SPE handcuffs that I have seen marketed as transport handcuffs. They are made by a company called Sain Professional Equipment hence the SPE abbreviation. They are a company that have been in business since the mid 1990's and have manufactured handcuffs and other equipment for Dutch SWAT teams, Dutch Ministry Of Defence and Dutch Ministry of Justice. Dutch means The Netherlands. They are functionally exact in every way based on what I have seen from other people and images of the more widely known LIPS handcuffs which are usually shown in a silvery grey colour and are used (or have been, not sure if they are still used but I think they are) by the Dutch police. Literally the only difference seems to be the branding printed/engraved on them, that's it. These use a special key which are not that easy to come by online. They have a proper 3 or 4 lever lock, similar to Chubb mortice locks. Usually the handcuffs come with 2 keys when purchased brand new, one long key and a short key. My pair are a used pair and came with 1 short key. I have since made myself a couple additional keys. There are some keys on eBay and if I am successful at making more I may list them on eBay at a more sane price than the ones someone else has listed. These handcuffs restrict movement very well and allow a decent amount of movement within the cuff, as seen in the video where I can spin my hands around in them in a similar fashion as I can with TCH "superior" sized handcuffs. They do not have a regular double strand where the rotating arm swings through, the double strand has been replaced by a very thick single strand, which is very odd looking but works well. Very robust... They have no ditch in the rotating arm which usually is added on modern handcuffs to prevent a VERY strong person pulling outward and disengaging the teeth. This seems to be because the body metal is significantly thicker and wider than most modern handcuffs, which my guess would mean it has MUCH more strength than "typical" handcuffs. They fit a similar wrist capacity as TCH 840 police handcuffs which come in the Superior size and they close decently small too. They are VERY comfortable. They have 2 methods of double locking, either via the nice levers on the back or you can use the key in the opposite direction to double lock. They are decently secure compared to most of the more modern police handcuffs in use, though they can be picked by someone with the right tool and knowledge, BUT it is hard to pick them while you are wearing them. I can pick them relatively easily but I have never managed to do it while wearing them. They are on eBay UK now. Instructions below. This is how people make handcuffs safe for use as movie props and TV props where people need to be handcuffed but need a quick way out in an emergency. It gives the illusion of being secured but is easy enough to open by rolling your wrists in the direction the bow needs to go when it opens. These are genuine UK handcuffs as used by prisons and for securing and escorting prisoners to court. So you can take any normal pair of handcuffs and turn them into a movie prop and have a more convincing costume accessory, or perhaps a toy for the kids. INSTRUCTIONS: All you need is a diamond file (cheap on ebay) and the best to use is a little triangle one. I had to use a normal flat one which made it more difficult. Normally the teeth have a totally straight edge on one side | and a slated angle on the other \ so that it looks like this |\ What you need to do is file the flat side with your triangle file to give it a slanted angle like the other side so instead of looking like |\ it then looks like /\ What this does is when you pull backwards on the bows, the force actually makes the pawl teeth (the teeth inside the body of the handcuffs) slide up the new slanted angle and it then skips open, as shown in the video. IMPORTANT NOTE: The one thing is, they can still be locked totally secure if you double lock them, so you should be aware of this, if you use these as some kind of safe but realistic looking costume piece, someone with a pen or other pointy object could press the double locking pin in when you aren't looking and then you would need a key to disengage the double lock before you could pull them open. So I recommend the handcuffs be placed so that the back where the pin is, is close to your body. However if you use Smith & Wesson style that has a window, it is always accessible so you will want to be a bit more careful.
