What you need to make a metal lathe in your home workshop - a piece of channel, a pair of angles, profile pipes, electric motor, lathe chuck, wide thrust bearing, drive pulleys. Almost all components of the lathe were found at the acceptance of scrap metal. I took a 200x75 mm channel as the basis of the machine, welded four legs to it, made spacers. Then welded fasteners for electric three-phase motor. Then, with smaller channels of 140 mm, I fastened the racks for the front headstock. I try to make everything collapsible, and fully welded. Then with the help of bolts and nuts fastened the thrust bearing of the front headstock. And to it a faceplate and a turning cartridge with a diameter of 125 mm. There were already two pulleys on the thrust bearing. I will also need to buy a drive belt, about 1305 mm long. The first part of the work is almost completed. Everything turned out to be much more complicated than I thought before starting work, as it almost always happens when you do something for the first time. The next stage will be the most difficult, I think, namely the design of longitudinal and transverse feeds.
