3 Ways People Hear From the Spiritual World
How do you talk to a god? How do you hear from one? In Taiwan, they have a simple yet useful system using red wooden blocks to hear from the spirit world. This system allows communities to work together, helps answer simple questions like whether or not a sacrifice is enough, and also allows more complex decisions to be made that may be difficult for a community to decide on.
A similar practice was found in the Old Testament with the Jewish people using the Urim and Thummim to contact Yahweh. We don't know much about it except that God allowed certain practices to be used to communicate with Him and hear His advice.
Today though, Christians don't have magical stones or a temple. So how can they hear from God? One of the best ways is the Word of God which is referred to as a living book. The Bible states it is God-breathed, inspired by God Himself. The scripture may seem mundane to many but the claim of scripture is that it has an almost mystical and supernatural power to communicate the truth of God to us today.
As Christians, we can memorize and dwell on the words of scripture and see immense growth in our spiritual life and changes in how we live as people. You can trust that learning scripture will change your life!

Holidays happen all across the world but sometimes they overlap in unique ways. In this video, we share three things that Chinese New Year and Passover have in common.
Having a common trait doesn't mean that they are connected or that at some point people groups mingled and swapped ideas about religion and holidays. But, as people made in the image of God, we sometimes worship in patterns and it's interesting to see the common ground and differences we have.
All across the world people are celebrating and remembering, and while the details may be different, it's important to understand how humanity isn't so different from each other.
One of the things to realize is that the story of Chinese New Year, or the Passover and the Seder, are things that people identify with personally. The Passover story is told not as an isolated story of an ancient people but, to a Jewish person, as "our story."
Realizing that we have a great heritage as Christians and that we wouldn't be here without the amazing work of God helps us to identify with those stories on a richer, deeper, and personal level.

Taiwan has a spooky history of ghosts, demons, and spirits. One of the most intriguing things on the Island is the abundance of Wang Ye, or plague gods, that are worshipped. These deities often arise after a community is unable to eliminate or exorcise a spirit that is causing disease in the community. When nothing works, they eventually turn to worship as the last resort for stopping disease. In 1662 one of the most famous ghost ships in history arrived in Taiwan and yet relatively few know about the immense impact that this had on Taiwan's culture. Carrying five statues of young scholars that died violent and horrific deaths, this boat would go on to influence Taiwan for hundreds of years. While Christianity doesn't have a Wang Ye, we have a similar problem of a person bringing plague upon us and in today's video we discuss how to undo the curse of Adam.

Seen in movies, television, on the streets of Taiwan, and in pop culture related to China - Lion Dancing is a religious, spiritual and cultural tradition. But what is it? Why do people lion dance? Why when you type "Lion dance fight" do so many epic martial arts films come up?
In this video, Pilgrimage films dives into Lion Dancing, a religious way to increase the Yang energy of an area and dispel negative Yin energy. This practice brings prosperity to a region while also showing the power of symbols in religious worship. Some of the most unique and special cultural events in Taiwan come not from traditional Chinese backgrounds, but the various ethnic groups that have been here for a very long-time. This week Pilgrimage Films went to a Hakka Festival that is several hundred years old and has mingled with Taiwanese Folk Religion to create a unique thing known as the Pigs of God. This controversial practice goes back to a time when families were assigned the honor of bringing a large pig for a yearly sacrifice. Over time this became competitive and we see the practice of force-feeding pigs arise in Taiwan.

To punish evildoers humanity has always resorted to shame and torture. One of these devices, a cangue, was found throughout Asia and kept people from eating. Sometimes it resulted in death. Today hundreds wear a giant yellow paper cangue to identify with those times of penance and seek forgiveness from the city god.
Pilgrimage films dives into the forgiveness festival and how it relates to the Christian God who offers forgiveness as well by taking the cangue upon Himself.
