From http://www.swimmingpoolsteve.com/pages/superflo-unboxing.html before you buy a Pentair SuperFlo variable speed pump watch this video to learn about the port connection sizes, if the pump comes with unions, as well as the height of the intake and discharge ports. Also learn about the (fairly) unique dual 115 / 230 volt electrical compatibility for this 1.5 HP pump.

From http://www.swimmingpoolsteve.com/pages/pipe-size.html - Learn why the size of pipe used for your swimming pool plumbing system is important. Larger diameter pipes helps with water flow efficiency which helps with the cost of running your pool. Smaller diameter pipes, like the 1.5" and 2" PVC pipes found on most residential swimming pools, have the water travelling very quickly through the system causing friction and turbulence which make the system less efficient. Having the water forced through the pipes at those volumes to keep up with proper filtration requirements far exceeds the maximum efficient flow rate of the pipes which makes your pump and filtration system have to work harder. The bigger the pipe, the more water it moves at a slower and more efficient rate. You can also turn down the motor RPM to reduce the flow velocity if you have a variable speed pump. But why not both? Lower RPM and bigger pipes for maximum efficiency.

http://www.SwimmingPoolSteve.com - Gunite and shotcrete are terms that are very often used incorrectly in the swimming pool industry. While both gunite and shotcrete refer to a concrete pool, it is the method that the concrete is applied that is different. Gunite is a process where dry concrete is pumped through lines and water is added as the concrete exits the nozzle. Shotcrete is a process where mixed (wet) concrete is pumped instead of dry concrete. Shotcrete allows for a more controlled water content than gunite, which is extremely important as too much water will drastically reduce the strength and quality of the finished concrete.
If you would like to read more about concrete mixes as they apply to swimming pools you can read this article by Steve: http://www.swimmingpoolsteve.com/pages/concrete.html

From http://www.swimmingpoolsteve.com/pages/pool-care.html - Learn how skimming and vacuuming your swimming pool makes your water chemistry maintenance easier. Leaving debris like leaves floating in your pool water or settled on the pool floor will use up the free chlorine much faster than if you remove it. Skimming and vacuuming your swimming pool regularly will reduce the impact organic contaminants will have on your chlorine levels and subsequently the rest of the chemical levels as well.

From https://www.swimmingpoolsteve.com/pages/builder-delays.html - How long it takes to build a swimming pool has many variables, such as the type of pool being built, so every project will be different with the amount of time it will take. This video give you a general idea of how long building a pool would take to complete for the different types of pools, for example an above ground or an inground vinyl liner pool. Above ground pools are probably the easiest and quickest to install and typically take a couple days to complete. Inground vinyl liner pools as well as fiberglass pools will often take two to three weeks to build, barring any weather delays or any delays of another kind (equipment or shipping delays, etc.). Building an inground concrete or gunite pool is usually the longest of pool builds, often taking a minimum of two months since there are stages that require more time such as waiting for concrete to cure before the next stage can begin.
