Short upload, but thought this booth was neat.
This is from Hamvention 2023. This booth was here to test radios emission standards to make sure they were in FCC compliance. It's nice to be able to buy used radios and bring these by to make sure everything is in proper order.

This guide is directed at my new hams out there, or ones that are just now getting into award chasing and using those platforms that offer awards.
QSL cards and using Logging programs will be separate videos down the road, so this is a broad overview on getting started.
There are a few things that a log should consist of which include the UTC time of the contact, Freq, mode, grid location (or QTH), power used, Signal Reports, Date, and names.
This log can be analog, or paper, or it can be digital, whatever works best for you.
There are many logging applications out there these days, so it's a good idea to use a few to see which one fits your need.
I use DXKeeper for example, which allows me to export different log files to the web services I use for online logbooks and awards.
Logging your contacts is a long term tradition of ham radio operators and an important aspect of the hobby.
I remember all of the information was a bit daunting to me at first so I wanted to make this video

So there's a lot of talk about Bluetooth on the Yaesu FT3D. Some headsets work and some don't. So in this video we take a look at several headsets and see which one works, and what works with VOX.

So I bought the antenna listed here:

I am in an upstairs apartment so it was a challenge coming up with a way to get an hf antenna up. The best conclusion I could come to was an end fed dual band antenna for 20-40 meters
It's not the best job, but I've gotten a few contacts and it's a start.
I do hope it doesn't cause any problems with the landlords.

Someone emailed me the other day after working FT8 for my first few days with a screenshot of my radios signal on his waterfall, and a third order harmonic.
He attached a document with a lot of good information on tuning a radio for FT8 and other digital modes.
After doing a little research into what ALC(Automatic Level Control) is and what it does, I experimented until I found a "sweet spot" where I could transmit higher power without it resulting in distorted audio, or my radios ALC kicking in.
By tweaking a few settings I was able to achieve a nice middle ground and eliminated my third order harmonic.
I am by no means an expert, so suggestions and corrections are welcome. But I wanted to bring this to light, and share how I fixed this on my ft-450.
This ducument was sent to me by a Mike Black/W9MDB and apears to be created by a Eric Spero/WA1SXK as well.
Full credit goes to these two for this document.

Numbers stations have been around since the cold war era.
Nobody knows their origin, or their purpose.
The leading theory is that they are broadcasts from goverment ment for spies or agents who are in the field, who use a "one time pad" in order to decode the messages.
Here are some communities who are deticated to tracking these stations and uncovering their secrets.

You can use a websdr to listen to these stations after finding their broadcast schedule.
