South Florida Cane Pole Fishing Everglades Broward County Florida
Fishing the old-fashioned way with a cane pole in the Everglades in Broward County Florida. I used my telescopic Black Widow cane pole to catch some small bluegill and a nice size Maya cichlid. I used fresh white bread for bait with 8-pound mono and a sz 4 panfish gold hook.
It was a beautiful morning in the Everglades and now that it is getting into Fall the days are only going to get even better. I will be spending more time fishing.
The little cane pole is fun to use and a nice break from my spinning reels and rods. Catching a large fish on a cane pole is a treat. You get a lot of funny looks from people but for some types of alongshore fishing, a cane pole can actually out catch a rod and reel.
I wish I had brought my celery shrimp bait. I have been experimenting and wanted to see if it would work or not.

I like to buy used Golden Book Encyclopedias for under $20 on eBay as gifts for pre school or grade school kids in my family. The Encyclopedias are outdated as far as the text goes, but only in a few areas, but the important thing to note is they have over 6000 amazing color illustrations that draw the young reader into the story. If your kids have not started reading yet, or are just beginning, these books make an excellent gift.
My parents bought us Golden Book Encyclopedias when we were children and it is amazing how much information I learned from reading them that I still remember.
Once your kids develop the reading habit you can get them a Kindle, but this cheap set of encyclopedias is a great bargain and inducement in getting your kids interested in books and reading.

I prefer the 1960 version of the Golden book encyclopedia which I have been finding on ebay in good condition for $20 and less.

How to grow and cook mung bean sprouts or beginners guide to growing and cooking mung bean sprouts. This is the first time I ever grew mung bean sprouts. I watched a ton of Youtube video experts make their mung bean sprouts and used a method to grow my sprouts in a colander with paper towels that was the simplest for me.
I used a colander, two paper towels and a lid made from a disposable foam plate, and a bowl to catch any water from the bottom.
After soaking 3 tablespoons of beans for 24 hours I lay them in the bottom of a super clean colander lined with a paper towel and covered them with another paper towel and my foam plate lid. I watered the beans thoroughly every morning ad evening. on the third day, the sprouts were to the top of the colander and I cut the roots off and rinsed the sprouts to remove all husks.
If I had used a plastic screen on the bottom I would have been able to remove them easier and get a higher yield as I would not have had to cut away the roots.
RECIPE
The sprouts were slow-cooked in a pan with a tight lid and a few teaspoons of water. The ravioli was not boiled in water, they were slow-cooked and steamed and simmered in the pan with the other vegetables. A wonderful way to cook pasta.

I bought a used Alphasmart Neo 2 word processor on eBay for $29 and it works great. When writing with the Neo 2, there is no distraction from the internet , it is very sturdy, reliable and simple to use and the 3 AA batteries will power it for months at a time.
When I first got the Neo I could not figure out how to transfer the files to my PC so I searched the internet for the manual to find out. After learning how to transfer the files I made this video to share, only then I discovered the basic operating instructions were printed on the bottom of the Neo2.
Doh!
Even though the video makes me look stupid, I am hoping there are a few viewers who might need a cheap word processor and appreciate the brief review of the Neo2.

This is the best way I know of to use wild foraged fruit like the Surinam cherry or other fruit with a large seed.
SeaGrape and Barbados cherry and Cocoplum and Loquats all grow wild here and can be had for free but until now I never bothered with them because of their large seed and a small amount of pulp. In the past, I considered them marginal fruit. By using this method of washing and freezing the fruit and then breaking the frozen fruit to remove it easily from the seed I think I will be able to use the other fruits I can forage in my area a lot more.
I consider this an important prepper food discovery. I am sure there are other people using this method of foraging food but I have never heard of anyone else doing this.
This year we had a healthy crop of cherries and I now have about 7 pounds frozen in my freezer whereas in years past I ignored the cherries due to the amount of work needed to use them.

Can you grow microgreens with cheap Walmart Pennington Sunflower seeds for birds? Don't they all have pesticides? Everyone on the Internet says to stay away from bird sunflower seeds as they must have pesticides in them. That is the main argument I could find against using Walmart's Pennington bird sunflower seeds to grow microgreens.
I emailed the Pennington company and they assured me that while their seeds are not sold or packaged for human consumption they do not add any pesticides to their sunflower seeds. I earlier bought Prairie Melody sunflower seeds as they specifically state they do not use pesticides but when I run out I am trying the Pennington Walmart seeds to experiment with as they are much cheaper and do not have pesticides added either according to Pennington.
Earlier I made a video about a low-cost pesticide remover for fruits and vegetables that I imagine would work equally with sunflower seeds.

I have not tried Pennington sunflower seeds yet for microgreens and I am not recommending you do so as the company does say they are not sold for human consumption, but the main reason people give me for not using them to grow microgreens seems to be not relevant.
