You Have One Week To Live, What Do You Do? | With Fergal Byrne
This is from a conversation I had with Fergal Byrne, which I thought had some good ideas.
Thinking about if you had one week to live, what would you do? how would you spend your time?
If that's different than what you're doing now, you don't have your priorities straight.

Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast of all time, withdrew from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics citing mental health concerns. Is this a real issue where we should cut her some slack, or should she have pushed through it like Michael Jordan's Flu Game?
Let's find out. But the good thing is Simone Biles opened up the door further for a conversation into mental health, which is always a good thing.

Today's episode we go deep into racism, the Black Lives Matter movement, as well as their horrible response to the very real racism in North America. We talk about virtual signalling and we also touch quite heavy on the response of the news and information that's given out by the mainstream media.

The Happiness Hypothesis By Jonathan Haidt | Animated Book Summary | Between The Lines
There's more great info in the book, pick it up here: http://amzn.to/1TIiQZq
The Happiness Hypothesis comes from the scientific examination of ancient scriptures and writings, like The Bhagavad Gita, The Bible, and The Quran. The book covers being happy internally and external.
For internal happiness we need to increase our happiness set point, which can be done through meditation, Cognitive Therapy, or by taking Prozac. Then we also need to have difficult goals that we can achieve that will give us immediate feedback on if we're making progress or not.
We can do this by having hobbies such as skiing or working to make friends in the community. Our goals can be to do a certain amount of acts of kindness per day or ski a certain hill.
We need to also make $70,000 per year at a minimum. If we don't do that, we have a lot of stress in our lives about not being able to make enough money. Any more money made then that and our happiness set point only goes up a minimal amount. Although it still goes up. But mo money, mo problems, it may not be worth it.
In summary we need to increase our default happiness set point, we need to make money, we need to be involved in great social relationships, and we need to have cool hobbies that we can do, combine your hobby and your relationships with others for a deadly combination of happiness.

12 RULES FOR LIFE, JORDAN PETERSON SUMMARY - LAW 1: STAND UP STRAIGHT WITH YOUR SHOULDERS BACK
Jordan Peterson has been in the news a lot lately, and has really blown up and changed the way many people see the world. For better or for worse. Personally, I find he has said some great things and is a great beacon of light for the generation that is coming into adulthood.
I've learned a lot from him and hope to learn a lot more from him in the future. Pick up his book 12 Rules for Life on Amazon or at a bookstore.
It's a great introduction into self help from Jordan Petersons unique world.
The first rule in Jordan Petersons book 12 Rules For Life is to Stand up Straight with your shoulders back.
Seems like a silly rule to start a book off with, no? Why would he recommend this?
Because Hierarchy is built into evolution, and good posture signifies high status.
It goes back millions of years in evolution, and if we look at lobsters, who have a lot in common with us, we will see why.
When lobsters get mature they lose their shell and get soft until they develop a new, thicker shell. In this time of need they need shelter, and a cave rock that can have a shell dragged over the entrance to disguise it is a highly in demand asset.
Often lobsters will fight for this place. The winner will go on to strut around with big posture, and have his in demand household. Girl lobsters will want to mate with him to get his good genetics.
The loser will adopt a shelled up posture. Having been defeated, it remains defeated forever and will adopt a subordinates brain. It won’t even fight lobsters that it’s already defeated.
Winning and losing are both cycles. If you win, you will continue to win. If you lose, you’ll continue to lose. As evidenced by this bible quote: “To those who have everything, more will be given. From those who have nothing, everything will be taken.”
If you are winning in life, you’ll have better posture, your brain will produce more serotonin and dopamine, which will allow you to think further into the future as you’ll have reason to believe the future will be bright. Whereas if you’re in a losing cycle, you have a shorter outlook and are more likely to partake in drugs and alcohol as an escape.
Standing up straight is step one of a winning cycle. Your body will produce more dopamine and seratonin. If you have proper posture, it is a symbolic way of saying you are voluntarily facing the world and its hardships.
When people encounter you, they won’t automatically take you for a low status person. You then have mo

Switch By Chip & Dan Heath | Animated Book Summary | Between The Lines Book Summaries

Switch is a book about change. Everyone has come up with something they would like to fix about themselves, whether it’s to get in better shape, drink and smoke less, make more money, or stop ruining dinners by being on the phone.
This book gives clear examples of the three factors that are required for change and how you can apply them to yourself, your family, your organization, or your community, to maximize the chances of making a permanent switch from a bad behavior to a good one.
Out of the three factors needed in order to make a switch, Two of them are in the mind. One part of your mind is logical, and one part of your mind is emotional. Picture a person riding an elephant. The rider who controls the elephant is your logical mind, while the elephant itself is your emotional mind.
Now the rider has the reigns, he’s technically in charge. But look at the size difference between the rider and the elephant. Whenever the rider and the elephant differ on where they want to go, it’s not going to be too long before the rider is forced to accept it and just do what it is the elephant wants to do.
The third step in the equation is to shape the path. How can you make it easier for the elephant and the rider to get to where it is that they want to go? All three of these factors are needed to make a successful switch. In the video we break down them down.
These are just a few ways that you can make a switch in your life and develop what you want to be doing into habits, which makes behaviors easier to do then to not do.
Change doesn’t always work, and change doesn’t always fail. But when changing does work, it tends to have these three frameworks going for it, whether intentional or not. When you have the rider, the elephant, and the path set in alignment, it gives you the best possible chance at success.
