Full Event: "A Congress Unlike Any Before: A New House Celebration"
CODEPINK: Women for Peace co-founder Medea Benjamin and Iraqi-American Peace and Human Rights activist Raed Jarrar hosted "A Congress Unlike Any Before: A New House Celebration" Thursday night at "Busboys and Poets" in Washington DC.
The event celebrated an uptick in the number of female congresswomen in the newly sworn in 116th congress.
Congressman David Cicilline, who chairs the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC), spoke out against big money in politics and criticized President Trump's foreign policy agenda.
A representative for Congressman Ro Khanna to explain his agenda for the new year.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY14th District), Maxine Waters (D-CA 43rd District), Hank Johnson (D-GA 4th District), Ro Khanna (D-CA 17th District), Andre Carson (D-IN 7th District) and Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-TX 18th District) were originally expected to attend, but congressional votes stretched late into the night and stifled their attendance.
Women's March co-founder Bob Bland also attended the event and closed it out with a reflection on the Women's March and how her movement plans to work in the future.
Bland discussed how the Women's March movement has expanded beyond two large marches and into resistance - for example - to the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Bland said that she welcomes and encourages a diverse range of positions and voices within the women's march movement, specifically pointing out that she wants anti-war groups like "CODEPINK: Women for Peace" to challenge them.
Kristin Mink - known for a confrontation with then-EPA head Scott Pruit - spoke alongside Bland, emphasizing the role that one person can play in shaping history.

About 40 activists from a coalition of right wings groups including "Resist Marxism" and "Boston Free Speech" gathered Saturday afternoon at Boston City Hall Plaza to rally against "left wing violence." The group clarified that they're "against all political violence," but that they believe it predominantly comes from the left today. Dozens of Boston Police surrounded the group, protecting them from the hundreds of antifascist activists that attempted to confront them.
After rallying for about an hour without any violence, the group marched with police protection to the "T" (Boston's subway) where they traveled to Bunker Hill, meeting with the "blue bloc" along the way. The "blue bloc" is a group of "Boston Free Speech" activists who wear all blue and conceal their identities, mimicking antifa's "black bloc" style. They say that the tactic is used to prevent doxxing.
At Bunker Hill, a few activists spoke, and one (who is also a cannabis legalization advocate) Samson Racciopi, lit up a joint. The group was confronted by only a few counter-demonstrators at Bunker Hill and was able to leave uneventfully.

Pro-Palestine activists gathered Thursday night outside the State Department to yell "shame" at employees and guests at the facility as they entered and exited and demand they "quit your jobs!" They demand an end to American aid to Israel and a ceasefire against Gaza.
One pro-Palestine student came out from inside the State Department and joined the rally. She was attending a festival event inside, and the protesters were audible: "I could hear your chants in the middle of the speeches!" The crowd cheered.
Racial justice activist Afeni Evans sang with the crowd outside the State Dept: "Papa papa, can't you see what the Zionists do to me!" she sang. "Palestine will be free!" "Free, free, free Palestine!" she chanted with the group after the song. "Intifada! Intifada! Long live the Intifada!"
The pro-Palestine activists had been spread out on all four sides of the State Department to ensure everyone entering or exiting heard them. As the sun set, the various sides combined, and hundreds chanted together at the front entrance, "Free, free Palestine!"

An antifa activist performed what he calls "pig-fishing" Saturday night in Washington D.C. Ahead of a "F*** the police" march, Jason Charter - who is currently facing 20 years in prison - held a donut on a fishing rod and offered it to police officers. None took the bait.
"Awe, that's one of those crumb cake ones," one officer replied sarcastically. "That is delicious."
"I'm on a diet so..." rejected another.

Police attempted to end a weeks-long standoff Monday night by breaking through a bike lock on the front door and entering the Venezuelan Embassy.
Four members of the Embassy Protection Collective remain inside. As Guaidó supporters cheered police on, they attempted to convince the four people to exit, without success.
Embassy Protection Collective's legal counsel Mara Verheyden-Hilliard was present during the negotiations. While law enforcement felt comfortable making an order to leave, threat of arrest, and forcibly enter the building, it appears they weren't prepared to forcibly make arrests inside the embassy.
