We are meant to be a dead church - in a good way - DEAD to self, to worldly desires, to sin, to the world, and to the flesh.
Luke 9:23 …If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
To take up your cross means you are on your way to crucifixion. In today’s terms it is that long walk between the prison cells, towards the room with the electric chair.
The Christian is called to die - to his or her own ways and will. Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
May we set ourselves resolutely, as Isaiah 50:7, I set my face like a flint… May we be sold out and committed. As Christians, may we count everything else as dung. As loss. That we may please God.
The Bible tells how we are to die to sin. 1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. It tells us of dying to sin, and also of living unto righteousness.
The heart has to be radically transformed. Romans 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
As true Christians we are dead to the world and its ways. Dead – to worldly philosophies and thinking. Worldly culture and reasoning. It’s foreign to us. The kind of culture that thinks its OK to harvest human body parts from babies who have been made in the science lab. The kind of culture that says it’s OK to kill one of a pair of unborn twins in the mother’s womb, because the mum to be doesn’t want the extra workload of having two born. The kind of culture that laughs at Southpark and the crudity of the Simpsons.
Galatians 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections (emotions) and lusts (desires).
The flesh cannot satisfy. A life lived for self and flesh and sin is empty and will lead to destruction.
Let us hand over our desires, ambitions, passions, and self will to the Lord. Let Him be your driving passion. Let Him be your overwhelming desire. Your love, your fulfilment, your life’s purpose.
A preacher once said, “Dead men never get offended.” The solution to offenses is that we must fully die to “self!” We must become totally immersed in the identity and person of he Lord Jesus, dying to self and allowing
