The Pyx by John Buell (1959) – She's Like Heroin to Me [Too Much Horror Fiction]
The Pyx by John Buell (1959) – She's Like Heroin to Me [Too Much Horror Fiction] With the finely-detailed image of a nude willowy blonde, tresses flowing, nipples bared, stomach taut, slim legs, and arched feet in full Playboy-model effect, the cover art for The Pyx promises a helluva lot! Especially for the Sixties when it was originally published by Popular Library (no specific pub date given, nor is artist identified). This little guy was on my want-list for a few years till I lucked upon it for only a few bucks on eBay. Sure, it practically fell apart as soon as I opened it, cover popping off spine, oh well, who's complaining? Should I be surprised that there is no naked woman in the book, nor creatures with disparately colored eyes? Do I demand my money back when reading this novella-length paperback that is basically a crime story about a dead prostitute, her madame, gay friend, criminal consorts, and the dogged detective on the trail of her death? No, I do not. https://toomuchhorrorfiction.blogspot.com/2023/08/the-pyx-by-john-buell-1959-shes-like.html
Cry Little Sister
"Cry Little Sister" is a song written by Gerard McMahon (under the pseudonym Gerard McMann) and Michael Mainieri, and performed by McMahon for the soundtrack to the 1987 film The Lost Boys, which peaked at number 15 on the Billboard 200. The original song failed to chart, although it charted in Australia and the United Kingdom in 2003 when the track was remixed.
The track has been covered by several other bands. Aiden recorded a cover for the soundtrack to the 2008 sequel, Lost Boys: The Tribe and appeared again in the closing credits of Lost Boys: The Thirst. In 2010, Seasons After scored a top twenty hit on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs with their version of the track, after it was included on their 2010 album Through Tomorrow. Eight years later, Marilyn Manson released their version of the song as a single after it was featured in a promotional trailer for television series Titans.

18 artists changing the face of horror
These creatives have dark, gruesome and horrifying nailed.
Horror and gothic art won't lose its appeal as long as society maintains its fascination with death. For some artists, the macabre provides a release from internalised fear. For others, it's a playful way to seek a reaction from their viewers.
Whatever the motive, managing to capture a truly frightening scene, and present the viewer with a disturbing yet beautiful image, is a real skill.
In honour of Halloween, we take a look at great contemporary artists who focus on dark fantasy themes, with many revealing why they paint such deadly themes.

Unbury Carol Book Review [The Horror Bookshelf]
Like a lot of people, the first time I read Malerman’s work was when I stumbled across his debut novel Bird Box. Bird Box is a unique story that follows a woman named Malorie as she attempts to find a safe place to take her two children, five years after the arrival of the mysterious creatures who can drive people to madness with just one glimpse. Reading Bird Box, I was drawn in immediately by his unique take on the post-apocalyptic story and the world building that went into the story. After I finished that, I was sold on Malerman’s talent and knew I was going to be a longtime fan. I’ve read everything Malerman has released since Bird Box, and while each book has its own style, the one constant is Malerman’s storytelling ability and imagination. When I first about his latest release, Unbury Carol, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy and see what sort of adventure Malerman conjured up this time around.

Bleeding Skull [Official Website]
On January 4, 2004, Bleeding Skull was launched with a simple intention: to share a passion for otherworldly genre films. Since then, Bleeding Skull has become the authority on cinematic dispatches from the fringes. Fangoria called Bleeding Skull “The go-to encyclopedia for trash, bizarre, and shot-on-video horror cinema,” while Vice referred to it as “like a fever dream glimpse into parallel worlds.” Years of uncovering and celebrating these films led to the publication of Bleeding Skull! A 1980s Trash-Horror Odyssey (Headpress, 2013) and Bleeding Skull! A 1990s Trash-Horror Odyssey (Fantagraphics, 2021). In 2018, Bleeding Skull teamed up with the American Genre Film Archive (AGFA) to launch a home video line with releases such as The McPherson Tape, Limbo, and Boardinghouse. Led by editor Annie Choi and founder Joseph A. Ziemba, Bleeding Skull continues to explore, discover, and share otherworldly cinema, all with a joyful DIY spirit inspired by the films themselves.
