For this project, I'll be making radioactive uranium glass, which was very popular 100 years ago. Under a blacklight, the uranium in it fluoresces to give off a nice green color.

Unfortunately my favorite book is on fire, and I should probably do something about it.

By weight, Epsom Salt is actually 53% water and this is something that has always blown my mind. It just felt way too much to be possible and I've finally decided to test it out myself.

In this video, I get a bit back into making compounds with odors and scents.
I chose to go with Raspberry Ketone, because I thought it was an interesting molecule and the synthesis seemed fun.
However, in the future, I think I'm going to venture into the territory of nasty smelling compounds. For some reason, I enjoy the suffering that they bring.

A while ago, I ate capsaicin, which is basically pure spiciness. However, capsaicin is hydrophobic, so it had a very hard time dissolving on my tongue. However, if I take capsaicin and dissolve it in alcohol, it's technically is less concentrated, but it should be a lot spicier...

This is an interesting reaction with quite drastic color changes. It is also one of the few known oscillation reactions.
I followed the prepartion guide from this website: http://chemistry.about.com/cs/demonstrations/a/aa050204a.htm
The information about the reaction mechanism I got from this site:

I did not mention it in the video, but the manganese sulfate is added to provide Mn2+ ions. These Mn2+ ions catalyze 2 steps of the radical process by acting as a reducing agent in one step and as an oxidization agent in another. More information about this can be found in the link that I provided above.

In this video, I clean some potassium metal that I left out neglected for a while. It was covered in oxides. We first needed to neutralize the oxides, and then the potassium was melted down.
I am in no way advocating that this is the best way to clean old potassium. Also, there are always fire risks involved.
I also just made 300g+ more mercury thiocyanate to make a new Pharaoh's Snake video.

UPDATE: In this video, I am showing you guys what the "proper" procedure would be, but it is by no means the fastest. If you want the fastest way, follow chemplayers method. I just prefer to not evaporate solvents, but that takes extra time.
I would use a gravity filtration though in both cases though. It's just as fast and doesn't have as many problems as a vacuum one.
Still do a recrystallization though. Without a recryst/hot filtration, the ASA is still pretty dirty.
