After defeating Team Rocket at the Radio Tower, go to Blackthorn City and enter the gym. This gym has boulders that can be pushed from the 2F and down into the pools of lava. Once the boulders are all down, you can cross to battle the gym leader. Clair uses Dragon type Pokémon. Dragonair will use Thunder Wave to paralyze opponents. One knows Surf, the 2nd one knows Thunderbolt, and the 3rd one knows Ice Beam. Kingdra will be the hard part as it will use Smokescreen to lower the target’s Accuracy. Since Kingdra is Water/Dragon type, only Dragon type moves have an advantage against it. After the battle, Clair won’t offer anything yet. She will tell you about the Dragon’s Den that you will enter next to find a mysterious shrine. Enter the Dragon’s Den and go into the shrine where an elder will quiz you. After you’re finished with the quiz, Clair will step in to give you the Rising Badge. Once you leave the shrine, Clair will give you a TM24 (Dragonbreath). Dragonbreath has a 30% chance of paralyzing the target.

After seeing crabs at the beachside, go through the door. Choose a partner of either Nago, Pitch, or Rick. Watch for stones falling above and round cactuses coming from the water. After a Witch, enter the door and use a green balloon ball to take the upper path, the lower path, and the 2nd path up. If you take the wrong path, you’ll end up in an empty room with harmless bugs. Once you take the paths correctly, you’ll see cannonball bars on star blocks. In the water, use the door on the lower right corner to find a room full of star blocks. Carve the star blocks to form an HB-002 and you’ll hear a siren once you do. After some more cannonball bars, use the next door to see wild boars and partner thieves. After some coconut bombs, you’ll find the goal. If you carved star blocks into an HB-002, you’ll be rewarded a Heart Star.

The starting section has bolts on the ground and jumping tentacles. If flames appear, they will soar sky high and come down, so be ready to dodge. If you touch the lava, you’re out. If flame pillars rise, just wait it out until they die out. After descending once, ride a platform over spikes and turn right. Flame pillars will also appear on the wall, so time your movements to get past them. As you keep climbing, keep timing your movements to avoid the flame pillars. At the next section, fragments of fire will emerge from the ducts above, so give it your best timing to get past them. Descend and you’ll begin riding on moving platforms. After evading embers from the lava, enter the cap doors to take on Fire Man. Fire Man will move around and unleash a wall of fire that travels horizontally along with a smaller flame that travels upward. Using the Thunder Beam has an advantage.
