The book boards I reinforced with paper on either side are dry now, but still lacking ample rigidity. The further steps of constructing the cover would add further firmness to the boards, but I want more assurance. At this juncture, I have decided I will double up the boards unless I'm working with an unusually sturdy single board. This means more gluing for today's live stream. Instead of gluing paper to the boards, two boards will be glued together and dried overnight. Hopefully this will provide ample resistance to bending. Before I can glue anything, more methyl cellulose paste needs to be mixed up. If the paste doesn't set into a gel as quickly as required, I'll find something else to work on as a backup plan.
Fourteen books have freshly glued spines from the last stream. They will be removed from the book presses and added to the large pile that need linen tapes and mull glued down to their sides. The twelve books that had one side glued are now dry, so the final side will be glued.

Marbled paper is used when I do bookbinding. The sheets are cut to size and folded for use as endpapers. I have put off the task of scanning my marbled papers for years, but now I want to scan my remaining collection before I use them in books. Since this last batch of paper is too large for my scanner I have to scan the sheets in two passes. I use Hugin to stitch the scans together and Capture One to remove distortion and apply a color consistent profile. For music I listen to retro video game music from the 16-bit era.

My sister invited me and my parents to join her in a Bible reading plan this year. The plan goes somewhat chronologically through the Bible. There are 5 readings per week, allowing for missed days or breaks. If you wish to join along, here's the reading plan: https://www.intoyourbible.org/read-through-the-bible. If anyone is active in chat, I'll respond to messages between chapters or sections of reading. At the end I'll share a short vlog report if anything new is going on. Bible text is from the Berean Standard Bible (BSB). The BSB was generously dedicated to the public domain in 2023 and can be quoted in any form without prior permission from the publisher. https://www.bereanbible.com. I'm not a well-educated Bible answer person. Here are some resources for those with deep question about the Christian faith: https://biblethinker.org Mike Winger, https://www.gotquestions.org. May the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ guide you into all truth. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.
I made it to church this morning, and I'm glad I went. After staying up all night, I'm blast tired, so this might not be a long stream. More conversions from poorly constructed sprite sheets to animated GIFs. I'll keep uploading them as Kick and Rumble emotes until all the slots fill up. Then, maybe I'll keep doing it forever because I want ALL the retro video game characters! Depending on my mood, I might work on my bouncing sprites script too. Meh, was too tired to get much done and mostly looked at examples of CSS animation for inspiration but didn't find anything compelling. For music I listen to retro video game music from the 16-bit era.

A hike I went on back in February still has plenty of photos to work on. I’ll use Capture One to develop more raw photos. Hugin will be used when panoramas need to be stitched. If photos already processed look dumb now, I might quickly touch those up a second time. Wow, this should have been a beta testing session for Affinity Photo - and Hugin for that matter. Massive bugs uncovered! Anyhoo, I eventually gave up after a ton of crashes. I'll revisit it again another time.

The craft table is still a little messy. Rather than spending a bunch of time cleaning that up I want to get started. I'll include whatever arranging I do as part of my stream. But likely I'll just leave some messes and work on some books. At the very least I'll get a sense of which step in the process I'm at with various books. Likely I will get to cutting some book edges if I can find all the tools to do so. Hopefully my chat works fully this time. I made a few minor changes to get it working. For music I listen to retro video game music from the 16-bit era.

It snowed a lot last night and this morning. To show how much I'll do a snow shoveling stream this morning. Later I might have to plow the driveway just so I can get in and out.
To my surprise, it has been about a year and a half since I last worked on a book cover. At least that's what my spreadsheet shows. Perhaps it has a few missing lines. The book being worked on in this video is a special journal made for my parents' cabin. I am hoping to visit soon, and the current journal is completely full. I have been working on this journal for a long time, but have put off finishing it until now.
The last step of gluing the cover pieces together and then attaching the text block was once the most stressful step of bookbinding. It became less stressful for several years after creating an ironed-out process. In this rare case I returned to experimentation, uncertainty and stress. Since the book is large I dreamed up varied spine engineering to hopefully support its extra weight.
Everything was going smoothly with the cover fabrication until the very end. Things didn't work out quite as I hoped, and it was a near disaster. I rolled with the punches and produced a result that will hopefully turn out acceptable. It was a good learning experience, and I'll have some new ideas to try next time.
This is a livestream bookbinding session from May 2, 2022 on Glimesh. Uploaded here for archival purposes.

Glimesh is a very small community currently, but I'm hoping it will eventually grow. It's a great open source platform with awesome, simple ideals.
First off, follow ELFSAR on Kick, DLive, Rumble, Youtube and Twitch. He's a fantastic artist who generously does giveaways to subs, supporters and viewers. The one and only time I entered his "drawing" (pun), I won an awesome drawing of Link, inspired by the recent Zelda Tears of the Kingdom video game. Today will be a very quick stream where I open the package to reveal the drawing. I'm sure even my decent camera won't do it justice. Hand drawn hard is one of those things you need to see in person to fully appreciate. I seen it yet, as the package remains unopened until now. I was patient to open it on stream with anyone who might be around. I also ordered some pencil leads recently, and I'll open that package on stream too. For music I listen to retro video game music from the 16-bit era.
