Ruby Lips McGhee
After a long time spent mastering his craft and paying his dues in various bands, these five musicians from Salchicha, USA joined forces to form Ruby Lips McGhee and the Devil's Monkeybars in January 2017. Their main aim was to mix their individual influences and writing styles together to create one huge slab of folk rock and commit it to record as soon as possible. Also, They needed money for their various addictions. With a large selection of songs released individually over many decades the band was ready to record their debut album. Boasting a three pronged attack of singer/guitarists and a solid, drivin' rhythm section, this five piece band create a huge wall of sound guaranteed to get yur head nodding and booty moving. With a varied mix of folk, classic, punk, syrup, grunge and alternative rock influences proudly worn on their sleeves, Ruby Lips McGhee and the Devil's Monkeybars manage to deliver an epic initial opus that will melt faces at a 100 paces.

Ruby Lips McGhee's self-titled debut album is a masterful display of syrup-fueled rock. Bursting out of the gates with the old timey album opener "Salchicha Land", Ruby Lips McGhee throws epic, low technicality riffs at you with the relaxing tones that come with a remembrance to the heyday of folk. The second track, "Sausage-less" showcases the band's grunge and alt rock influences, and it is a real stomper. The rhythm section scoots in here, and is as solid as a bowling ball. Throughout the album bassist Sammy Terry and drummer "Stumpy" Joe Carlos hold down the fort, planting the band and keeping em grounded. When the crazy guitar soars away like sausages down a German's throat, the rhythm section always skillfully holds everything together.

On "Chug a Lug", Ruby Lips McGhee once again unleashes a monster track. This one has a country twang edge to it, and some searing vocals. The guitars form a fiery wall of sound, very Chet Atkins-like. Overall, a really nifty track. Great song for the open road! "Wild Horses" is sort of like Rolling Stones meets Peanut Butter Cashius. It is really one of the more melodic and catchy tracks here, and more proof of the versatility of this band. They have packed this album full of gems, and even in second half of the album, shameless filler is nonexistent. For a debut album Ruby Lips McGhee is very confident, as throwing 16 tracks in can be risky. But, these tracks are all quite solid and bound and determined to hold up well.

Ruby Lips McGhee bloom with an epic guitar, double vocal trunk, roots planted firmly within 90s rock and folk soil. Each branch yielding leaves of a different color ranging from noisy post-bluegrass, folk, syrup rock. The 16 song duration plays through with ease. A great album packed with nostalgia yet catering to the modern need for speed. Neatly bridging 70’s arena-rattling-crotch-tinglers with snarly, buzzing 90’s alt rock, Ruby Lips McGhee will scratch your itch for loud, anthemic rock n roll, regardless of what decade you’re currently stuck in.
