In this video I show you the basics of setting up the WSTJT-X software in order to start making long range contacts with FT8. FT8 is a HF ham radio digital mode made for making long distance contacts, even with high noise. This video covers the basic setup, making and logging QSOs, as well as Calling CQ. I've logged 60 contacts on FT8 in 2 days, so it's very effective in making contacts.
Decided to put the GoPro to use and do a commentary while I deploy my POTA antenna. The Chamelon EMCOMM-II Portable EFHW. A Base Antenna, Portable, HF, 160-6 meters, 1.8-54 MHz, 500 W SSB, 60 ft. Length, PL-259, Each. this antenna has been a solid choice for portable operation. But thought it would be nice to show people my process. I know that there's a lo9t of better ways to get an antenna into a tree. I need something portable, lightweight, and low mass.

This is a video review and demonstration on the Btech APRS-K2 cable and how to use it with the Aprsdroid app.
This cable is super handy, although it's a bit pricey. It regulates the volume and voltage for audio interface with the baofeng.
This cable works with almost all baofeng models, including the UV5R UV5RB UV5RE and F8HP.

We will be doing lots of cool things with this device. First in this video we talk about the general use case and give an introduction. Next we will prep a windows operating system to work as a master and client.
After that we'll start accessing resources over the 70cm amateur radio band via the NPR modem. We will build an amateur radio IP network.

It's getting more and more common to make a Christmas light antenna here on YouTube, so this year I wanted to switch it up. Last year I made the EFHW, this year I made a regular ole Dipole.
But I decided to decorate the tree with it, and see if I could still make an FT8 contact, and wow did it surprise me. I made a DX contact basically right off the bat, so as always, you don't need a giant yagi outside to play on HF.

As we finish up the packet radio series, I wanted to make sure to talk about Node to Node linking over the Internet with AXIP. BPQ32 and Linbpq support linking nodes over the internet by sending AX25 traffic over an IP network. I will also touch on CHAT application linking so that users can talk across nodes that way as well.
If you don't yet have a BPQ32 node running, check out:

This was an experiment trying to use a set of baofengs to create a full duplex communication over AMSAT SO-50.
The receive end in the video is a Baofeng UV-5R+, and the transmit side was a Baofeng BF-F8HP.
I was able to make some ocntacts, however things did not go as planned. The full duplex did not work as the Recieve end was overloaded.
After the video was made I changed the setup around to see if I could get it working. I am now just waiting for the next Opportunity to try it out again.

The NanoVNA, or Vextor network analyzer is a budget tool that can be used for a wide varity of functions pertaining to antenna measuments.
This cool little tool can be used to measure SWR/VSWR, and many other aspects of antenna design that I've only scraped the surface of.
I learned mater my calibration technique wasnt quite correct, so dont rely on this video for that.
You can buy the NanoVNA here:

Windows sends a lot of diagnostic information and traffic over the network. If we are going to use packet radio with it, we must first clean things up a bit. Packet radio typically has a slow connection, so in this video we preform some tweaks to get things ready to run smoothly, and then check it at the end with Wireshark to ensure minimal network usage.

After this, basically 0 packets should be going over your Ethernet adapter while doing nothing.
Next we will configure the NPR (New Packet Radio) Master and Clients and install software to use over your Local Area Network.
