From the audience of Rique Pantoja Quintet’s concert at Parker Jazz few weeks ago - Fun times playing “Bluesette” by the great Toots Thielemans. Rique Pantoja ?⠀ Russell Haight ?⠀⠀⠀ Adriano Santos ?⠀ Eli Menezes ?⠀⠀ Gabriel Santiago ?⠀
I love Bossa Nova so much and I have played these two songs so many times over the years. They never get old. There's always something new to discover, to implement. I put together this short medley of both Girl from Ipanema and Wave to record with my good friend and amazing singer Gisele Duque. It's always a blast to play with her. This video was shot way before the pandemic and I can't wait to get back on stage with her again, once this is all over.
I hope you enjoy, and let me know what you think! Cheers!

In this episode I talk about a very important trait of the guitar - the ability to play the same pitch with different tone color - Timbre. That is a major asset to explore, and I show how to explore that by playing a little excerpt from the tune "Autumn Leaves" in 3 different regions of the instrument, pointing out how different they sound on a scale of bright/dark and how playing the same idea in different regions can give you other paths and new doors to explore with both melody and harmony. Enjoy!

What's Touring In Japan Like? The question is still being answered in this second part of the Japan Tour I did couple years ago. In this episode you'll get to follow me through Tokyo some of its awesome areas - Shibuya, Ginza etc. Lot's of Sushi going on :-)
And finally there will be some music going, as I play the first concert in Tokyo at the beautiful Brooklyn Parlor, a Blue Note owned venue. It was such an amazing feeling to get to play some of my own songs for the Japanese audience for the first time and get so much love from people that have been following me but haven't gotten the chance to see me live yet at the time. Very special moment for sure!
Let me know if you guys are digging these vlogs, there is a lot of footage from my adventures and I will keep sharing them with y'all, along with the regular music programming. Enjoy!

What's a Diminished Chord Appoggiatura? In this episode I dive into Appogiaturas, a non-harmonic tone, and how you can articulate it as a whole chord - most particularly the diminished chord in the case of this episode. I show some examples where it occurs on a few great Brazilian standards and give some hints on how to apply it on any particular song you might be interested in. Enjoy!

How Lyle Mays/ Pat Metheny use Dominant Chords? In this episode I talk about a very subtle and really great harmony movement that happens on a few compositions by Lyle Mays and Pat Metheny, where major 7th chords transition into dominant chords as a result of great voice leading. Some other occurrence is when they straight up switch major chords for dominant chords playing the same melody, applying this beautiful new color to the progression. Enjoy it!
