How Space Age Tech Makes Pokemon Go Work - Part 1 GPS
Yes, Pokemon Go is everywhere and while I'm not too interested in the game my kids are and it gives me a great opportunity to talk about how space technology is what makes this phenomenon possible. I ended up splitting into two parts because it was just getting too long and I was running out of time. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2O7oXJdKVtU
Following up on the History of the Thor rocket, I have the History of the Delta rocket, which began as a NASA version of the Thor in 1960. The Delta would evolve over time to match the mission requirements as they grew. Japan would build their own version of the Delta too for their launch program.
This covers the first 20 years of Delta design evolution, up to 1981 and the arrival of the Space Shuttle which was supposed to replace it.
Again, heavily influenced by Ed Kyle's History:

NASA has flipped and flopped between the Moon and Mars for the last few decades, and now they're back looking at the Moon as the logical target to move beyond Low Earth Orbit. This week they called on industry partners to design new spacecraft to put humans on the surface of the moon with a goal being to do this by 2028.

Another quick video while I'm on holiday, looking at the Haystack plugin which adds a new ship selection menu to the map screen making it easy to switch to or target objects even if they're embedded in a Kessler sized cloud of debris.
Download it from Kerbal Spaceport

DefCon is one of the world's most famous hacker conventions, it's been taking place in Las Vegas since the early 1990's and I've been to a few in the days before I had children.
This year a collaboration with the Department Of Defense had a competition involving hacking of satellites, to be clear the headline Hack-A-Sat event was a structured capture the flag event and this was part of a much larger Aeorspace Village which focussed on computer security in aircraft and satellites.

There's a playlist on the Air Force Research Laboratory youtube channel collecting the event, and of course

And of course DefCon has a website with the more general event including some top quality talks about the world of information security:

I did a live stream on Friday October 19th, mostly just talking and badly playing KSP. Will probably do more if people will watch them

The Gemini spacecraft carried the first fully functional computer in space, it ran with a clock speed of about 7kHz, uses 26 bit data and 39bit memory words, with 4096 words of memory. It was one of the oddest computer architectures ever developed, for a tiny niche, only ever used on the Gemini. Some of the design may have made it into the Saturn Launch Vehicle Digital computer, but
The best source of information on the Gemini On Board Computer is here:

Amazing work has been done reconstructing the limited documentation into a version of the architecture and approximations of the software.
The simulator I used to show the computer operating is Reentry:

Neon XSZ is a 6DOF tunnel shooter that is set inside a Tron style world developed by Intravenous Games, it's currently in Alpha and on Steam Greenlight so I thought I'd take a look and see what it brings to the table.

Rescue missions are a great way to bring more astronauts into your space program without spending any of your precious funds, so for the next mission in the space program we're going to do just that. And bring along a tourist to enjoy the views.
