Melting a Glass Rod with a MAPP burner to make an Optic Fibre
Using a MAPP burner, I melted a glass rod! As the bottom piece fell it stretched a fibre of glass so thin it was like a spiders web and was quite flexible. This is very similar to how a glass optic fibre is made. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ey1uI0V_9Ew
This episode raises awareness of some of the impacts of coal mining which include:
i) The effect on the land in the vicinity of the mine.
ii) How the land is changed/left once all the coal is mined.
iii) Effects on local water sources.
iv) Dust from the mine site.
v) Greenhouse gas production and global warming
vi) The availability of alternative forms of energy sources which are renewable and non greenhouse gas contributing.

Mikalah and I built a diorama together!
The diorama is based on the Disney Pixar short "Lava" which was shown before the movie "Inside Out".
It’s the love story of two Volcanoes.
It uses the ‘Peppers Ghost’ effect to make the girl volcano appear.

Japan has a modern, extensive and efficient system of trains. While in Shiuoka Japan on a Science conference (SKYSEF), Jacob was fascinated by how banked the trainlines were around bends. Jacob explains that the banked lines are able to exert a centripetal force on the trains towards their centre of motion, which allows a higher centripetal acceleration, and hence higher speed.
Jacob films a suburban train going around one of these banked tracks. While waiting at the Shinkansen (Bullet train) station a, bullet train goes past as well.

Mutant Triffid like plant found thriving under powerlines.
These awesome plants are known as the Giant Lily or Gymea Lily and are found on the outskirts of Sydney Australia. They thrive on sandy soil and are very drought resistant.

Hello beautiful people! I hope you enjoy science demonstrations
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lots of slow motion Science fun here!
1. The flame spinner. A little bit of water in a test tube. Add some Calcium Carbide and acetylene gas is produced. This gas is ignited and makes the bright yellow flame jet engine, causing the test tube to spin.
2. Travelling flame. Acetylene gas escaping from the nozzle on the flask is ignited by the candle flame. The acetylene gas flame then travels back to the source of the gas.
3. Toilet Roll Shooter. The blower sends fast air over the top of the toilet paper. This causes a force to the left on the paper which causes it to unroll. Bernoulli’s effect also causes low pressure on the top surface, causing lift as well.
4. Liquid nitrogen boiling. The evaporation of the liquid nitrogen fills the balloon with nitrogen gas.
5. The balloon has some corn starch in it. When it is burst, the cornstarch makes the puff of powder.
6. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy. When you squeeze the skin of the lemon, the oils ignite in the candle flame.
7. Egg drop! The burning paper uses the oxygen and lowers the pressure. The egg is pushed into the bottle.
8. Flaming Flask! The conical flask has some alcohol vapour and oxygen in it. The flame burns brightly. When the steam produced condenses, the egg is pushed in.
9. Iggle Piggle cannon. There is some water and calcium carbide in the bottom of the bottle. The acetylene gas produced ignites with the oxygen causing an explosion.

Make Science Fun - Wiggly Water Wave.
In this Make Science Fun video Jacob and Sam are super excited to show you a fantastic Physics demonstration which Jacob came up with a few years ago. Using a wiggling hose and water, and a strobe, the water appears to be in slow motion, but it's not! What you see has NO video effects or Slow motion effects.
So go ahead, 'Make Science Fun'.
