The Importance of Being Baptised
A baptism service on the 2nd of April. Congratulations to Moses, Linda, and Phyllis as they take this step of faith.
Why Should I Be Baptised? - Because Christ Commands it.
(Matthew 28:19-20) "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen."
To follow the example set by Christ.
(Mark 1:9) "And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptised of John in Jordan."
It demonstrates that I am a Believer.
(Acts 18:8) "...many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptised."
(1 John 2:3) "And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments."
What is the Meaning of Baptism?
It illustrates Christ’s Death, Burial, and Resurrection.
(1 Corinthians 15:3-4) "Christ died for our sins... He was buried...and He rose again."
(Colossians 2:12) "Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead."
It illustrates my New Life as a Christian.
(2 Corinthians 5:17) "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away: behold, all things are become new."
(Romans 6:4) "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we should walk in newness of life!"
Baptism doesn’t make you a believer — it shows that you already believe. Baptism does not "save" you, only your faith in Christ does that.
Baptism is like a wedding ring — it’s the outward symbol of the commitment you made in your heart.
(Ephesians 2:8-9) "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God : not of works lest any man should boast."
Why Be Baptised By Immersion?
Because Jesus was baptised that way.
(Matthew 3:16) "And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water..."
Every baptism in the Bible was by immersion.
(Acts 8:38-39) "...and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptised him. And when they were come up out of the water the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip..."
The word "Baptise" is a transliteration of the Greek word baptizo means "to immerse or dip under".
It best symbolises a burial and resurrection!

Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
WHAT is the Fear of the Lord? It is reverential trust and awe of Him. The fear of God is precious and important. Proverbs 15:16 Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith. Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Job 28:28 ... Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. We can trust that He knows what is best for us. Proverbs 8:13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way... Proverbs 16:6 ... By the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.
WHY Fear the Lord? We fear Him because He is The Only Holy God (Revelation 14:7; Isaiah 6:1-5), and because of His Greatness and His Wonderful Works. It is God's Perfect Plan for our lives. Proverbs 19:23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life...
It is a desperate need. The fear of God is missing in our world, and missing in our our worship. Romans 3:18, "There is no fear of God before their eyes." The modern church has lost a sense of the power and majesty and glory of God. They don't seek God in fear and reverence and honour. Their lives don't produce God-honouring fruits. We need to praise and pray to God, in fear of Him, and rejoice with trembling (Psalm 2:11). We need the fear of God to keep us away from sin. May God unite our hearts to fear His Name.
Those who walk in the fear of the Lord are promised blessings. Psalm 128:1 ...Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways. Proverbs 14:26 In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. Psalm 34:7-9 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. Psalm 147:11 The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. Psalm 145:19 He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.
Psalm 103:11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him... Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.
God Hears. Isaiah 66:2 (He will pay attention)... to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word. The Lord hears those who fear Him as they pray (Psalm 145:19).

I present to you: Three Keys for Life.
Proverbs 3:5-8 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
KEY 1 TRUST IN THE LORD
To trust means to believe. Have you ever met someone who tells a lot of lies? Sometimes it’s hard to believe them. But - there IS Someone we really CAN trust in.
I know that I can trust IN THE LORD. He’s One we CAN trust – like it says – with ALL of our heart. I love this one that encourages seeking God with all your heart… Jeremiah 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. Search, with your whole heart.
God loves and cares for us. He says, lean not on your own understanding. Trust Him, believe on Him. With all your heart. Like Philip told the eunuch… Acts 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
Give Him your heart, the whole of it. Some people lean on what they think instead of believing in Jesus with all of their heart. They miss out this very important KEY.
Are we trusting God – or just leaning on our own understanding… It is wonderful to be able to TRUST in the Lord Jesus. This is a wonderful KEY God wants you to have in your LIFE. Trust in the Lord.
Another key… is to…
KEY 2 KNOW THE LORD
God’s Word tells us, In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
God says we can KNOW Him. Abraham knew God. Abraham was called God’s friend.
Many people do NOT know God. They may know a little bit about Him, but they do not know Who He really is. For them, He’s not their real, personal Friend. He is just a kind of far away idea they have heard about.
We can grow to KNOW HIM MORE - through His Word. If the Bible is just a fairytale why is it banned in 52 countries? It’s impossible to hate something that doesn’t exist. Atheists hate God because He does exist! Really, it’s pride that stops them from yielding to Him… 2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God… Some people deliberately reject the knowledge of God. This really is the ultimate foolishness.
The knowledge of God is a great source of joy… 2 Peter 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord. We will want to get to know Him more and more. To grow in that knowledge. It’s not WHAT you know – it’s WHO you know that matters.

Our Lord urges us to discern the signs of the times – of our Lord's return –and the end of the world. Sermon of 6 April 2008.
There’s 24 signs in Matthew 24. …Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. 13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
It tells of deceptions and counterfeits - wars and rumours of wars. Our Lord says, Don't let these things overwhelm you. Our Lord's coming is closer – that can encourage our hearts.
We can expect natural disturbances, plagues, and persecution. False prophets, and abounding wickedness; morals and values trodden under foot. The Bible and God’s way of living is mocked. Yet the preaching of the gospel is another sign - missions work is a witness to all nations.
It tells of the abomination of desolation - the antichrist in the temple of God - he will pretend to be Christ himself - in place of Christ. He's going to desecrate the new temple in Jerusalem. We see awful apostasy - an idolatrous religion will come – and great false signs and wonders - a great deception.
Wars are foretold. We see rising conflicts in the Middle East - it's an ongoing boiling pot of strife - tearing countries apart. We see much poverty and a break down of families. Famines are another sign. Many people are dying from hunger - starving to death. Pestilences will come - epidemics. We can expect infectious diseases and plagues. We can expect earthquakes – weather warfare and seismic warfare can unleash earthquakes and tidal waves.
The last days will see an unleashing of an antichrist spirit. More Christians died for their faith in the 20th Century than in all the previous centuries combined. The world mocks Bible believers.
We see the moral degeneracy of the world - the love of many shall wax cold. Corruption, violence, immorality - we can see it all at the touch of a button. The Bible warns of a one world government - a one world economy - a on

Where are you? A call to self assessment and decision.
You have entered a new dimension as you stand at the start of a new year. So where to, from here?
A message about setting direction for the future, personally, and as a church. A call to prepare war - and wake up the mighty men. We all have some decisive resolutions to make - to grow our faith and deepen our relationship with the Lord.
Where are you going this year ahead? I’m talking spiritually? Are you growing? How is you heart with God? Has it grown colder, harder? Have you maybe taken your foot off the pedal spiritually?
Here we stand at a new milestone. For some it can be time to change. A new year’s resolution. Fact is, most New Year’s resolutions only last till January the 2nd.
Are things going to be any different a year from now? We must prepare for some things.
Prepare to meet thy God. Amos 4:12.
You can make this new year when you decide to follow Jesus. To go forward spiritually. To get ready for eternity. The Bible talks about preparing the heart… 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Are you where God wants you to be? Are you ready - for eternity? It’s a time to choose. Joshua 24:15 …choose you this day whom ye will serve… as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
The Bible urges us to prepare. Joel 3:9, Prepare war… Wake up the mighty men. 1 Cor 14:18 talks about: Prepare for battle.
Choose your priorities. Resolve to change things. Are we living according to His will? 1 Corinthians 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. Does the glory of God matter to us?
Life is like a vapour, here today and gone tomorrow. How is your relationship with God through Jesus Christ? People are wasting their lives on inconsequential things and yet eternity is really only moments away. Let Christ be at the centre of the decisions you make. Give God first place.
What about our church and its future? Will we stand fast and preach the truth? Or will we become just another ear-tickling church? The disciples told our Lord… Matthew 15:12 …Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying? In other words they were telling Him, tone it down. You might offend someone!
Actually, we need hard truths. It’s time to prepare ourselves. Get ready for what lies ahead. Matthew 24:44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. Jesus is coming. Get ready! Spiritually prepared. You and your family. Wake up. Get ready.
We also have need to be ready with our testimony. You need to be a witness for Christ. 1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
Also: Be prepared to serve God. 2 Timothy 2:21 …a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
It’s saying: be a useful Christian. Be used of God. What’s stopping you from being engaged in the church?
Are you prepared? Prepared for the master to use you? If not, why not? How are you getting stuck?
The mighty men need a wake up. It's time to get going!
Some would say, one day I will get around to it. Here you go - I have made one for you! You have a round TUIT…
Where are you? Be honest. Make the changes you need to make. Make a new year's resolution. Decide to live for the glory of God in your life ahead.
Put your future in the hand of the Lord. Live to please God and not yourself. Learn to glorify God every day.
