How a Failed Satellite Launch Was Used To Test General Relativity
In 2014 the 5th and 6th satellites from Europe's Galileo navigation system were launched into the wrong orbit because of a design flaw in the Soyuz/Fregat upper stage. The satellites used on board station keeping fuel to put them into a semi useful orbit, and now, scientists have used the fantastically accurate clocks on board to test gravitational time dilation. The result is the most accurate test yet of this effect, to within a factor of 0.0019% of what Einstein predicted a century ago. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pV3nUzD51SQ
The Alpha 2.3 update adds a new ship model to the hangar - the massive Starfarer tanker which the developers have made available to all players so they can tour it. The other major change is that the Xi'An Karthu Scout is now flyable so you can shoot other players or have it stolen when you park it.
There's bug fixes and a couple of new handguns, but the ships are what I'm most interested in.

I finally got it, and this is my first mission, once again I managed to strand a crew on a distant planet. I'd better get some help there soon.

Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager is a remake of Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space updated for modern computers (and Tablets) and with a greatly expanded selection of space hardware to build and missions to run. The game was just released to Early access and seems pretty stable. Only sandbox mode is available at this time, but the gameplay is broadly similar.
You can get early access here if you're interested

Another mission from the new Kerbal Space Program Update, head over to duna and search for robotic spiders. While the planets are aligned it seems that I don't have access to maneuver nodes, so I had to eyeball all my astronavigation, just like the good old days.

Ok it's not directly descended from Terraria, but it shares a lot in common and by definition has become the best 2d block based sci-fi survival game.

How did we go from no asteroids in the 17th century to 700,000 today? Did you know we only found some rocks as they hit the atmosphere?

Because kerbals have physics too! Except we don't have water physics so let's see what we can do about that.
