A video tutorial on how to safely and quickly dismantle a Craftsman C3 extended capacity battery pack. These packs are not easy to take apart, both with the large number of cells and also with the construction and the potential for short circuits while using metal tools.
One decision to make up front is what you plan to do with the battery pack after you take it apart:
- If you are planning to rebuild it by replacing dead 18650 cells, then take your time and work carefully lifting each spot welded tab off one cell at a time as I showed earlier in this video series:
-
- But if you don't intend to re-use the battery tabs, then you can quickly cut the tabs connecting the cells to the battery management board. With that done, you can quickly peel the tabs off the cells in a safe manner, if you intend to at least test the individual cells.
In my case, with the early BMS board, I don't plan to re-use much of the battery pack. I'll just use the case, connector post and fuel gauge. I'll test and save any cells with useable capacity but the rest will get recycled.
I'll try to post an up-close look at the early BMS boards and go into some of the components. So stay tuned for that video.
As always, thanks for watching!
