Join me as I bake a healthier low calorie version of the classic Carrot Cake. A popular choice by many in the belief the carrots make it a healthier option, it is often laden with sugar, oil and butter.
In this episode, I share with you healthier alternatives to common ingredients to create this masterpiece whilst maintaining a genuine taste.
RECIPE AND METHOD
For the mixture:
- 3 Eggs
- 3 Grated Carrots
- 1 Tsp Fresh ginger
- 5 Dates cut in quarters
- 220g Pineapple mashed, without the juice
- 20g Walnuts
- 50ml Sugar-Free Maple syrup
- 1 Cup Flour
- 1 Tsp Bicarbonate of soda
- 2 Tsp Baking powder
- 2 Tsp Cinnamon powder
Mix the dry ingredients together and set aside. In a separate bowl mix the carrots, eggs, ginger, walnuts, dates, pineapple and maple syrup together. Once you have achieved an even texture add in the dry ingredients. Be sure not to over beat the mixture as the cake will loose its height.
Transfer the mixture into a baking tin and place in an already heated oven at 180 degrees for 30-40 minutes or until a knife can come out clean from the cake.
Set aside to rest and enjoy with a lovely cup of tea.
Please remember to always eat treats sensibly as part of a full healthy balanced diet and an active lifestyle.

Join me as I discuss how I improve patient satisfaction through the use of Treatment Pad, an application that uses artificial intelligence to help take and generate accurate and instant before and after photographs.
As a cosmetic injector, being able to show the patient results after treatment is not only important for assessing the changes, but it is also important in gaining a patient's trust. By being able to quickly and explicitly show the patient the benefits of their treatment, confusion is reduced and patient understanding is increased.
TREATMENT PAD
Treatment Pad is available to download through the iOS store and some features require an upgraded subscription. Treatment Pad uses Artificial Intelligence to automatically identify facial markers, such as the eyes, nose and mouth to align photographs at the tap of a button. It will also zoom in and crop photographs accordingly. Some advanced features of the app allow you to take accurate photographs in real time. On the split view screen you will be presented with the static before picture on the left and a live view on the right making it easy for comparison. In addition, the integrated angle calculator will identify the angle of the face to ease the accuracy.
Templates with branding can also be made through the application, with the ability to add frames, blurs and texts to the photographs ready for patient presentation or uploading to social media.
With limited training required to use the app and the ability to use on mobile devices Treatment Pad has had a lot of success globally. It has been presented in several industry events throughout Australia and boasts clinics using the application from New York, Los Angeles to Harley Street in London.

WHAT THE PRESS ARE SAYING?
With the ever-growing popularity of aesthetic treatments and facial sculpting injectables, producing quality before and after photos has never been more paramount for practitioners. Unfortunately, the slightest change in angle rotation or camera orientation can considerably change how the outcome of a procedure is portrayed in photos, thereby misrepresenting a practitioner’s good work.

In today's episode of Dr Nora, I take you through everything you need to know about haemorrhoids from what they are, the causes, symptoms and treatment.
Haemorrhoids are dilated vessels or veins that arise from either inside or outside of the bottom. They can present with symptoms of being painful or bleeding.
It is important to seek medical advice if you are experiencing any bleeding from the back passage as this always needs further investigation.
Treatment options include creams or suppositories, ensuring your bowel motions are regular and soft and in some situations more invasive procedures such as band ligation and surgical removal.
You can reduce the risk of developing haemorrhoids by having a diet high in fibre and water, keeping active and ensuring that you do not strain on the toilet.
As always, if you have any concerns please do speak with your own medical doctor for an individual assessment.
I hope you enjoyed this video and as always if you have any questions or comments please drop me in a line below.

In today's episode I give you the low down on Ultra-Processed Foods (UPFs). These are foods that generally have 5 or more ingredients to them which typically include additives and emulsifiers to preserve shelf life.
Recent research has shown that we are consuming a lot of UPFs which may have a negative impact on our health, such as contributing to heart disease and colorectal cancer.
Be sure to always check the nutritional label when buying food from the supermarket. If the ingredient list looks like a science experiment, it's safe to say it's a UPF.
I hope you enjoyed this video and as always if you have any questions or comments please drop me in a line.

In today's episode I take you through what symptoms to look out for and how to manage if you have picked up this year's influenza virus.
Australia, to date, has recorded over 87,000 cases of the Influenza virus this year alone. Usually the flu peaks during the cooler month of August, however, we are seeing a spike much earlier on in the year. It is thought that this is related to very few cases in the proceeding 2 years due to lockdowns and travel restrictions. Now that these are lifted, cases are transmitting through the community at a rapid rate.
INFLUENZA SYMPTOMS
This may commonly present as fever, chills, cough - which may be productive, runny nose or a sore throat. You may be feeling very lethargic and have little energy to carry out tasks.
COMMON COLD
There are plenty of circulating viruses at the moment and the common cold is also one that is prevalent, the symptoms of this tend to be a runny nose, cough, sneezing and less commonly a fever.
DIAGNOSIS
Most cases respond nicely to a little TLC at home, however, if there is any doubt to the diagnosis a trip to the doctor after calling in advance may be an idea. By calling in advance, you are letting the practice know you are unwell and they may offer to either do a telephone consult or place you in isolation away from other patients.
A nasal swab is required to accurately diagnose the influenza virus. Your doctor may also carry out a physical examination to ensure there is no secondary bacterial infection.
TREATMENT
As mentioned, most cases will respond to rest, hydration and simple pain killers to reduce fever if permitted by your medical doctor. To ease a sore throat you may wish to gargle salt water if you are an adult. Simple conservative measures like a warm drink and resting well will often help to manage your symptoms effectively.
If you feel your symptoms have not improved or indeed are getting worse then it is advisable to speak with your local doctor. In some cases, where a patient may be immunocompromised, for example, pregnancy, over the age of 65 or other chronic illnesses, these patients may be at risk of developing a secondary bacterial infection which will respond to oral antibiotics.
ANTIBIOTICS
The common cold and influenza are caused by viruses, this means that antibiotics simply do not work. Unless you have a bacterial infection as mentioned above, they really will not aid your symptoms. In fact they will do more harm that good, you may get side effects from the antibiotics and worse still, you may develop a resistance to antibiotics, so that one day when you really need them, they do not work.
PROTECTION
We have all now been well versed about social distancing and mask wearing if we are unwell. These measures work effectively for the flu virus and common cold. Similarly, if you are sick, it is advisable to stay home from work and avoid infecting others around you. To improve your immune system and reduce the probability of catching the virus, ensure that you get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy balanced diet and exercise regularly. You may also consider getting an influenza vaccine from your local doctor.
