Once you speak with him, Clair and Lance will stop by and request to battle. Your rival will team up with you during this battle against Clair and Lance. Dragonair will use Thunder Wave to paralyze the target and Dragon Rush for a 20% chance of making the target flinch. Kingdra will use Yawn to make the target fall asleep on the next turn and Dragonbreath for a 30% chance of paralyzing the target. Gyarados will use Dragon Dance to raise its stats and Waterfall for a 20% chance of making the target flinch. Charizard will use Air Slash for a 30% chance of making the target flinch and Flamethrower for a 30% chance of burning the target. Still on the surface, there are Hammer Bros on garbage block sets. After 3 Buzzy Beetles, you’ll see anti-mushrooms and Koopas. Climb the big stairway that has holes and you’ll reach the flagpole.

Ecruteak City’s gym has a puzzle with a dark floor and elderly trainers. Navigate the floor and see if you take a clean path. If you step into a trap, you’ll be forced back to the entrance of the gym. Navigate through the dark floor and you’ll take on the gym leader. Morty uses Ghost type Pokémon. Normal type moves have no effect on Ghost types unless any of your Pokémon know Foresight. 3 of the opponents will use Mean Look to prevent switching out. One Haunter can use Mimic to copy off one of your moves you use on it. Gengar will be the hard part as it will combo with Hypnosis and Dream Eater. After winning, you’ll receive the Fog Badge and a TM30 (Shadow Ball). Shadow Ball has a 20% chance of lowering the target’s Special Defense stat.

Once you made your way across the lava, enter the next pipe and bounce off the music note blocks to navigate the area. Hit a ? Block to find a power-up item and use the pipe to return to the lava cave. If you see a red Koopa, take its shell with you so that you can hit a ? Block to get a Leaf. If you see a lengthy flat path, fly and go up the pipe high in the ceiling. From there, you can navigate a few ledges and reach the goal.
