Background: Another in the Green Renaissance DIY series - this film shows us how to make delicious berry smoothies at home, using seasonal fruits. Eat local. Eat what’s in season. Your taste buds will love it.
Film Tip/Trick: We made use of many top shots, giving the perspective of being inside the blender. Before flipping the “on” switch, you want to make sure that it is safe to place your lens above a high speed blender filled with food and liquids. Prior to filming, we covered the top of the blender with clingwrap and played around with speed settings. This allowed us to find the perfect speed which still gave us great movement inside the blender, but was safe for the lens too, avoiding any food splatters from bouncing up at the lens.
Carpe Diem - Seize the day.
While every day might not be good, there is always something good in every day. Life is filled with adventures and experiences. Life is about living. Find what drives you. Find what motivates you to get up every morning. Make every last second count.
"What am I going to do in an old age home? Sit and wait to die? Or should I have a purpose in life? I have a reason to get up in the morning." - Maggie Fourie

While browsing for old Nikon lenses in antique stores in Long Street, Green Renaissance met The Collector – a man with a real passion for cameras. He has built up a collection of more than 1000 cameras over the years. We were lucky enough for him to invite us to his home (not open to the public) to view his impressive collection. He reaffirmed how important it is to do what you love.
Film Tip/Trick: Always be prepared to film – in this case, upon meeting him, we went directly to his home to spend two hours filming. Also, when interviewing, purposefully create pauses between your questions - this allows you to capture the awkward, real moments that occur between answers from your character.

What if you only had a year to live?
Take a moment and seriously consider your answer to this question. What would you do? Maybe you’d spend your time close to home, appreciating time with loved ones. Or, maybe you’d pack your bags and travel the world. Maybe you’re interested in philanthropy and would dedicate that year to community service. Or maybe you’d spend most of your time alone, quietly reflecting on your life.
But the truth is, you can’t cram a lifetimes worth of experiences, achievements, challenges and friendships into one year. Life doesn’t work that way. But what you can do is make sure that you don’t take your time for granted, and that you consciously choose to pay attention to the things that are most important to you.
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. When you open your eyes to the beauty that surrounds you, you not only learn how to live but find what to live for.

For young people today, there is a lot of pressure to conform - worrying about how they look, what they wear...
It is important that we learn to focus on the the REAL beauty of a person - the beauty that goes far beyond the physical appearance - the inner beauty.
'It is not so important to be beautiful. It is important that you are smiling and have a good life.' - Borgny Patursson

One of the most significant events in the human experience is loss. It comes in all sizes throughout our lifetime. And yet, so many of us do our best to avoid our grief, shorten it, medicate it, or push through it with our eyes closed. We have forgotten the value of grief. We have allowed the intensity of the experience to overshadow the benefit we can receive.
Even though you come out of loss hurt, you can grow and you can learn. If we let grief shake us into being kinder human beings, we wake up to our shared humanity. We wake up to what binds us together as people. We see the light in each other. We find community.
And maybe, armed with all the gifts and lessons of loss, we’ll walk each step differently, more mindfully, intentionally, and deliberately. And when we choose to walk this path with our eyes focused on the gifts, they multiply.
